I apologize if this is the wrong place to pose this question but it seemed appropriate instead of creating a new thread. The following refers specifically to online play.
Given rule #1 if the other player does not follow it and starts trash talking, is it "ok" to give it back? I am not asking for permission cause we are all adults, and if you can't take what you dish out you need to grow up IMO.
However, I am trying to become a good and hopefully someday respected player. So how do you handle a situation like this?
I don't remember the wording exactly but went like this:
I had pp5 and the board was AJ9 flop I bet half the pot he calls. another high card drops, I limp cause I have about double his chips in my stack and not interested in putting more at risk so early in a private FR tourney(not cc btw). River comes to a King. So my 5s look terrible at this point, and I am ok with that. He pushes all in, I figure I may have him beat with a bet like that but FR are nuts in the beginning and I don't know this player so I fold. He shows Q8 off which hit nothing laughs at me and calls me a stupid donk for folding (not knowing what my cards are), and then re-iterates as if I could not see his cards typing "see Q 8 off I had nothing you stupid donk"!
I always assume this is just someone trying to antagonize to throw you off your game so say nothing. Something like 3 or 4
hands later I hit ppA raise he calls, I hit trips on the flop, he pushes all in with ppK. I know its childish but I couldn't help myself and before he leaves type "that was 3 aces". With a smiley face.
So my question is would it be better to just keep my mouth shut so to speak. OR is this just part of the banter that should be expected if someone tries to trash talk? I come from a long line of sarcastic people so dishing it out and taking it goes hand in hand in my life, but should I adjust on the table?
BTW I never start the trash talking at least at the tables and to my recollection
Thanks for taking to the time to read and possibly reply to this
