Does a player sitting out change your position?

It occurred to me the other day that whenever a player is sitting out, I assume that everybody slides forward a position.

For example, if I'm in the cutoff position, and the button is sitting out, is it okay to think and adjust my range as if I was the button?

Thanks in advance!

Yes. I look at it that way.

Yes, but if you are button and SB is sitting out, you should play like you are button but wider range because you only have one opponent instead of two and you have position postflop.

Yes, 100% - if a player is sitting out you can ignore them positionally.

In my opinion that's correct, if the player is sitting out than in fact the table has one less player which changes the position of each remaining player.

I would play exactly that way as well. Especially with the antes you have a little sweeter pot with less "players".
