Such periods happen to everyone, some go to other limits, take a break or try to play in a new style. What is better to do if this happened.

do not agree new style not enough information did you get in well? was there a mistake made in the hand? if not continue to play how you play.... honestly bad beats just happen move on

Hey tick, the OP wasn't making a statement/offering advice, I'm pretty sure they were asking a question but just didn't put a question mark at the end!

gallora, if you realise that you're on tilt, taking a break is probably the best thing to do until you stop steaming, otherwise you might lose your bankroll really fast! When you talk about some players going to other limits, I reckon you can split those players into two camps: the first camp is players who ARE on tilt because they've had some losses (because of bad play and/or bad luck) so they play HIGHER limits that they can't comfortably afford, to try and recoup their losses quicker. Those players are making a big mistake, they're likely to find themselves down to the felt before too long. The second camp is players who have had some losses but respect and follow basic Bankroll Management guidelines, so drop down to lower limits to make sure the game is still comfortably affordable for them with their particular size of bankroll. Those players are far more likely to build their way back up to the higher limits, and those players are almost certainly NOT on tilt! By the way, I agree with tick's advice that, if you've been playing well and making good decisions but are losing a lot simply because of bad luck with the cards, there's no need to change your playing style, just be patient, stick with it and, sooner or later, variance will even out and you'll get back to winning. Good luck at the tables, and have fun!

also prefer to keep playing and not pause. Although I begin to play more carefully, I do not lose my game practice.

I find it difficult to enter the game after a longer break. I mean breaks for more than a couple of weeks.

if your style does not bring good results, you can change the style of play.

if you play well and lose one tournament you can take a break

I think everyone has a breaking point. Some higher, some lower.

Gotta try to keep self evaluating to see how you've been playing.

I've been on a never ending run of getting beat by inferior hands in AIPF showdowns. I've noticed that I've finally let it get to me as my play has deteriorated. Now I am even losing hands I SHOULD lose.

Hope to self correct starting now.

one thing you can do is go over hands with some group of players..... see if you made mistakes?

if im on tilt or just cards screwing me i usually take a bit of walk if can 5 minutes dont play hands let it pass etc...

if like 3 hands get crushed in row when def should have won the 3 etc.. sometimes is first games of a night and i walk away...

this is the true beauty of poker.... confidence comes with seeing enough hands.... bad beats are part of that process... honestly only change if you have a strategy to implement and try etc.. then review... Reviewing you play is huge...

bad beats are bad beats so say your struggling at a certain time in tourneys and honestly if you had ACTED ahead of that time you might not run into that hand so to speak or if you do it doesnt matter cause your stack absorbs the loss...

this is the type of review im talking about.... so that bad beats? are an oh well get on horse and ride again Bad luck, how not to go into tilt.

Get to the root of the issue and settle your emotions so they won't ruin your sessions!!!

Other ways to recover are just taking a break, taking a walk, clearing your mind and resetting.

Be motivated to play your best poker rather than to just make money and naturally you should find yourself entering into a state where you're enjoying things and less likely to get upset. Bad luck, how not to go into tilt.

When you can feel yourself tilting there are a few easy things to do to get yourself back to your A game.

1) Take a break. This can be anything from 5 minutes to make yourself a cup of tea to a couple of weeks complete break from the game.
2) Drop down a level or two. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. If the Poker Gods have deemed it's your turn to have your Aces cracked 10 times in a row, better to do this at $0.05/$0.10 than $0.50/$1.00, right?
3) Analyse your game. Review your hands honestly. Are you making the right plays? If you're not sure, have someone who plays a similar level, or higher to you and you respect their game to analyse it with you. They might see something you are missing. If, after an honest analysis of your game you can say that you're are still playing good poker, this should generally make you feel good about your game and therefore remove the tilt.

You have to stop and see what you did right and wrong in the old style and try to absorb it for your new style, your style will surely change from the beginning so you will have to absorb the good things and discard the old style mistakes

I don�t know if there is bad luck or not, but today again my AA vs Naked 8 were killed on the river. You can always say that this is poker, but when it happens so often in heads-up, it�s not nice. Bad luck, how not to go into tilt.

Your question seems to be tilt focused. If so then you need to address what is causing the tilt directly not indirectly.
Changing your play would suggest you would be winning and therefore not tilting.
Taking a break means not playing and therefore not tilting.

They are not solutions to tilt. Just avoidance of tilt stimuli.
Losing is part of poker it cannot be avoided.

Tilt is an emotional irrational response to outside stimulus. We can work on our EQ so that we do not respond irrationally to outside stimulus.

The best thing for you to do is get Jared Tendler's books "The Mental Game of Poker vol 1 & 2"

These books help you identify the issues behind your tilt and then give you strategies to limit the effects of these issues. There is no better resource available and the books in digital format are about $10 U.S. each.

Realign your expectations. Better tilt control comes over time after playing an enormous volume of games. The better question is why you expect that bad beats won't happen to you.

If you notice bad luck is affecting your play, quit.

If you suffer X number of enemas due to online magic, quit. For me, X is 3 losing three all ins in a row where villain has 8 outs or less when all the chips go in. Online, that happens more frequently for me than winning 3 all ins in a row where I am the big fav.

When the online magic is strong, only way to counter is not play.

(This assumes you are a +EV player)

I pause the game, until I stabilize again. I study some basic concepts, and when I see that I feel good, I go back to the game. Bad luck, how not to go into tilt.

Normally when I lose several hands in a row or some fish takes me off the table, I prefer to stop playing for a few minutes or maybe a couple of hours until I forget about that and recover my level.

Tilt is one of the most wrongly understood things in poker. I have done some private research into my own tilting moments and I have completely fixed it (for the most part).

Tilt is simple and caused by a lack of 3 things:

Focus/Motivation
Wellbeing
Confidence

Focus/Motivation is anything to do with your ability to apply body and mind to the game. Sleep, food, drink and willpower come under this category.

Wellbeing is your inner sense of peace caused by emotions and thought patterns. Meditation quickly addresses these issues.

Confidence is your feeling of control and knowingness. You feel in control of the overall situation and understand why it is all happening and what you can do about it all. This comes from training and knowing the game. Your skill affects this.

When downswing comes, I can fall into a long depression and lose interest in the game for a long time. And it is very difficult to force yourself to play again.

While going on tilt is something a lot of players go through the smart ones know how to handle it. Tilt is just a state of mind and if you are unable to control that it can be detrimental to your bankroll or tournament life. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and regroup. You are going to be put in certain situations that just don't work out for you. Take a few deep breaths and do your best to bounce back. If unable to bounce back go over your hands and see what you could have done differently. Sometimes just because you have a pair committing yourself pre-flop isn't the correct play. Maybe just call and give yourself room to fold. Maybe you should have pushed, but didn't and allowed someone to sneak in there with something that shouldn't have been in there. Bottom line you can't control what happens to you, but you can control how you react to what has happened to you and learn from it.

First I have by no means conquered the tilt phenomenon!

It depends on amount of bad luck if I take couple really bad beats in a game and feel the frustration building I will sit out play my other game/games (as I usually play at least a couple at a time) while still watching the sit out. Only sitting back in once i know frustration has subsided or seeing a hand that's such a high percentage I have to jump in and play.

If talking long term first I would say switch sites not only will the cards fall different but a new atmosphere can give you new attitude and much needed confidence lacking probably where so much bad luck was taking place. If across many sites take a break long enough to regain confidence. I notice I play timid after many bad beats n hard to win even with good cards when playing scared.

Literally while I was typing this post this happened to knock me from top 5 to out not long before ITM so I decided to post since seemed relevant. It's a big part of poker and an even bigger part of ((((((((((((((.jpg

Tilting is a state of mind build in the human nature you can't stop it at all ; however you can control part of it.
By practice and hard work and mastering patience , you can overcome it.
Also positive affirmations can make miracles to the state of mind , especially self talk in loud voice , it can refresh your thoughts for a new start.

You can always time yourself out on a poker site for maybe 48hours and take a 2 day break

Or maybe you tilt cause you're playing with money you cant afford to lose with... then you should play lower
or only freerolls and try to build that up.

Try to watch videos or try to step away from the screen (if you play cashgames) or when the break arrives use those 5-6minutes to clear your mind and tell yourself that tilting wont help you, but it will help the other players at the table, if they see you play a bit tilted.

How I overcome tilt? Super easy, I just take a break and don't care about bad results at all it's important to care only about things you can control, other things don't worth worrying about, it's just luck.
Also a very good tip is to study poker while taking a break from playing. In general studying poker is very beneficial, but it's super effective during the break. You become a better player mentally, so when you come back you are ready to crush every game👍

I would suggest to take a break; fold out for a couple of hands. Bad luck is not selective of persons. Happens to everyone, however, some people do play in an erratic manner, or aggressively. Then they wonder why their hands end up useless. To those people, they're guaranteed to go on tilt, because they probably hate losing their control of things in general. Occasionally, they'll declare openly they're on tilt, so most players will fold. It's just unfortunate for those who have the blinds at the time...

When I had bad beats, it depends the reason. Are you making mistakes that should not be done several times according to your plan? If yes, you need to take a break.

But, if it's because some variance, just stick to your gun and play and remind yourself that it's just variance.

That is the worst for me in poker, not to get tilted like helmuth haha I always try to think what have I done wrong and if there is not a single mistake done by me then I just take it as bad luck, which in the long run always comes back

i usually control myself when have on 2 backdoors 9 till 15 outs, so i think if you bet for a lucky jam on both backdoor its your kind of style and there's no place to be TILT.

im TILT when i make mistake which have prepare and work to not repeat these mistakes

The above comments made me think that bad beats are much less common than I thought. Poorly read options are the main cause of mistakes in the game. And bad beats has nothing to do with it.
I will learn to count outs and odds better.
