To return in a winning way you need to improve and actively practice what you learn.. so a good way would be to drop lower in stakes and just play there for a while and "return" to a higher stake when you are ready. You can't become better by running away from it

Retiring for a while, isn't really retiring there guy. Taking a break can be healthy for the mind and game occasionally. The length of that break is entirely up to the individual and there issues.

re: Poker & At some point you have to stop playing poker?
I have certainly felt that taking a break is a good thing once in a while. When I find that I am unable to separate my emotions from affecting my play, I will take a break from the game to reset. I try to completely remove myself from the game first, then before I start playing I will do some reading to get myself back into the proper mindset.

The key to success in poker is patience and you have to have volume. Breaks are necessary if you feel you are making incorrect decisions that are costing you value at any point during your sessions.
Set up a planned day where you do nothing poker related or two throughout the week if you are playing poker for a living. For most it is just a hobby or side income but clearing your mind for a day helps no matter what you are taking a break from.
