This is a discussion on 3+ hour tourney pays to 5 places then CHOP? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; Ok folks, I understand some people think this is a great idea to do, but it's not my idea of a tourney. Not an issue
Ok folks, I understand some people think this is a great idea to do, but it's not my idea of a tourney. Not an issue for me today as I did not make the $$$ (this time @ foxwoods), but last time I went to Mohegun Sun I made the $$$ and was encouraged to chop with the remaining players and to give a piece to the bubble?
BTW I bubbled out in a tourney @ foxwoods 3 years ago few weeks after the above and nobody offered me shit, so I certainly plan on standing my ground on that one next time!
Maybe I am just unlucky and this only happens when I go there (admittedly second time in 3 years) to Mohegun or Foxwoods.
But what are your thoughts? Last time at the chop I was short stacked and still wanted to take my chances (to see how I would do) but figured to hell with it if they want to give me money so be it. I also assumed it was unusual, not playing live very often and did not expect to see it next time I played (though 3 years ago).
The chop just makes me not want to play tourneys there anymore. On the other hand enjoyed the Cash games! But I want to work on my live tourney play too..
Also if you play at foxwoods or Mohegun in their tourneys have you come across this or is it just bad timing on my part?
Just kind of curious what the consensus is here thanks...

If you hate the chop so much then just say no and play on, is it not that simple

Most tournaments these days do end up chopping and some for IMHO a ridiculous number of places. Now I have chopped a couple of tournaments but only in the case where I was getting more $$ than my chip stacks was worth ICM wise or where the blinds were so high that everyone was in shove-fold stack sizes. Here's what Johnathan Little says about chopping http://jonathanlittlepoker.com/letsnotmakeadeal/

In my local casino the players can ask for a bubble deal, then the host comes out with deal or no deal cards for all the players to decide.
I usually accept the deal, it means that I know I've cashed and don't have to play cautiously any more and the tournament won't last all night
