Hello, and welcome to Cardschat's new Hand of the Week series!

The purpose of the Hand of the Week (HotW) threads is to encourage in-depth analysis of a particular hand, which may or may not extend to further, more broad analysis of specific situations and indeed poker in general. Each week (note: the word "week" is used in its loosest sense - HotW threads may arise more or less frequently depending on all sorts of things).

It's our intention to make HotW accessible to all - and as such hands will range in 'difficulty' from simple preflop decisions to more complex play in the latter stages of a hand. With each hand will come a selection of 'talking points', which you can feel free to respond to or ignore at your leisure.

The main aim of HotW is, of course, to improve your poker ability, be that your ability to hand-select preflop, your ability to see how reads may completely change the most effective play in a hand, or your ability to see how analyzing one particular hand can be useful in broad poker terms and not only if very similar situations crop up again.

There are two simple rules, firstly low-content replies will get nuked. There is no crime in being 'wrong' about a particular decision in a hand, but anyone posting thoughtless nonsense like "I WUD GO ALLIN" will find their posts rapidly disappearing because we want to keep this relatively high-brow and will more aggressively moderate low-content posts. Don't let that discourage you from posting in HotW threads though - as long as you put more than a second's worth of thought into your post then you'll be fine, and in a lot of cases you may find that there's a correlation between how much effort you put into replying to a thread and how much you get out of said thread.

Secondly, don't insult anyone who posts a reply that you consider 'wrong' or 'stupid'. Yeah, the mod-types crack down on this anyway in the general forum, but it absolutely won't be tolerated here. If someone is wrong, explain to them why they're wrong or just don't bother replying. If someone has posted a no-content crappost, use the magic red report triangle and move on.

There is a chance that a small monetary reward will be offered in the future for the best replies to HotW threads, but for now self-improvement will have to be your motivation. Whether Nick starts dishing money out depends largely on how well this idea takes off - just throwing that out there.

Also, please don't send in hands for HotW consideration. We may use hands from time to time that have been posted and largely ignored in the Hand Analysis sections, but if you have a hand that you want analyzing, your best bet is to post it as we can't guarantee that any and all hands sent for HotW consideration would be posted. That said, if you have a real doozy of a hand and you don't mind potentially having to wait a while, I guess you could PM it to a mod-type but I neither encourage nor recommend doing so.
