The SB cold called a pre flop raise OOP. With no stats on the player his range can still be narrowed down a little.
- Before the flop we can take under consideration hands like A2s – A5s. At those limits you still can call with those type of hands even OOP.
You can discard small pairs like 22-66 and even A6s or offsuit – A9s or offsuit. Discard also small and middle suited connectors such as 2-3s till 10-9s. High suited connectors can call here. So we can take under consideration J10s, JQs, KQs and discard those without a suit. Maybe he can call with Q10s. Some strong A can also call here such as A10s, AJs or offsuit, AQo. AKs or offsuit and maybe AQs you are getting a reraise here (at this limits with AQs I can expect a reraise even OOP). You can get only a call from pocket pairs such as 77-1010. With JJ(you are at 2NL so yes even with JJ)-AA you are getting definitely a reraise (allin) so discard those hands.
On the flop (8Q3 – I am assuming rainbow) you get a check and then a call for 2/3 of the pot. We can now discard some of the hands that we considered before such A2s – A5s, 77, J10s, A10s, A10o, AJs, AJo. With AQo, KQ we get a 3bet but he can also slow play them. We don’t know nothing about him so keep them in consideration.
We are left with Q10, QJs, AQo maybe AQs, KQs, 1010, 99.
88 are definitely in his range and he can slow play them.
Then the turn is an A.
He checks. You are scared so you check back.
Take out of consideration 88. A set would have definitely have bet here hoping that you had a connection with the board. So no 88.
Neither AQ. Absolutely not AQ.
You are then left with Q10, QJs, KQs, 1010, 99.
The river is a 9.
Assuming that he didn’t have a strait (J10 would have folded before the river) Q10, QJs, KQs, 1010 and obviously set of 9s.
Now he leads for 0.44 in a pot of 0.92.
You are getting 2:1 for a call and you hold a hand that with our prior considerations can be beaten only by a set of 9s assuming that he is not some agro dude who call with A2o and follows you till the river.
Consider also that you showed weakness on the turn.
The correct move here is CALL.
