So you get a walk in the bb, then a free turn card to give you trips. Do you get away? i put him on any Ax lower than AJ in this spot given the limp, more likely A7 to justify his turn raise, but surely not pockets.

Needless to say he got a note reminding me he plays aces badly.

anyones $0.02?

Yes you get away...

Don't over value trip hands like that, it's a common mistake among new players.

if you have 88 and hit the 8 on the flop then it's a different story..

You hand is like a bluff catcher because any 8 beats you and you actually don't beat anything but a bluff. plus full houses out there.. 25 and 65 straights are even out there.

Definitely get away, I wouldn't necessarily say this is a bluff catcher, you should be able to still get value out of worse, but with him going all in, you are beating nothing.

when the hand is shoved like that it's turned into a bluff catcher.

Usually when the river made over super bet is indication that the villain is a bad player and has nut. By their statistics the villain is fish and although part of its range is an AS X also has small pairs and can have full house.
Your value bet on the river is good but when you climb so generally does with nut. Most of the time your hand will be the best on the river, but a common leak of weak players is to bet on the river over all in with nut.

Will definitely be looking at similar spots on the river. I've been caught out a few times now where the lines have been really passive both pre and postflop, then you vbet on river and get shoved. I guess the big tell here, is the fact that the opponent wants to get it all in. But clearly doesn't know how to setup stacks for a plausible shove otr, so should get away when being offered a ridiculous bet like $1.81 to win $0.29.

duhh.
Thanks guys
