Ok... You're in a SNG or something, and let's say it's down to you and another player. They're sitting on 5,000 in chips, and you've got 2,000 in chips. A hand comes up and you double up, giving you the chip lead... Your opponent then proceeds to go all-in preflop for the next 3 or 4 hands... What is this? Is this going on tilt? Is it them trying to take back control of the game? Do they all of a sudden have good hands that warrant all-ins? I see this quite often, and wonder what's going on. I mean, if they become grossly short stacked, I understand needing to take a stand and gamble a bit, but they're not. There's still time to make it back. Why take the chance that the other guy wakes up with a hand?

I've never done this. Has anyone here? What's the point?

It's usually a control issue. And under your example after the double up, you'd be up 4K-3K. Presumably the blinds would be high enough at that point, that shoving and winning the blinds 3-4 times gives the person the lead back.

The point of it depends on how the match has gone. For the person shoving, if they know that you are relatively tight, it's a good enough strategy. Even if you wake up with a hand they would most likely be a 70-30 dog, at worse maybe 80-20 and at best a virtual coin flip.

he's just trying to get his chips back he lost...or hes trying to "be the boss" of the table play back at him....if a guy is doing this repeatedly any king or ace is usually good..

Mostly going on tilt - imo.

Having lost the chip lead, s/he's willing to bet the farm on Lady Luck to regain the lead ... or settle for second ... which is already guaranteed.

Mostly it's players going on tilt, and it is a good time to call with any decent hand. You see it a lot, after a player loses a big portion of their chips, they shove all in on the very next hand, usually with air.

generally they are just upset that they didn't take you out when they could and want their chips back so they want to bet you out... or they just don't care if they make 2nd or 1st as they get some money either way. I know that some think that way.
