OK questions for all of you hot shots out there (yes you know who you are) as well as my many dozens of fans out in the internet.

I'm at a crossroads where I either move to 50nl OR I switch over to 6max cash game poker. I've put in a session or two at 6max, enjoyed it, was good at it, but lets face it - it's a small sample size and I have a lot to learn.

So - let me know what you think.

If grinding full ring has been getting you good results so far, then I'd stick with that.

6-max is no doubt more fun, but there's something to be said for focussing on the game that brings you the most profit too.

Ice.. I voted 6max + stox mainly because stox has been a great help to my game. And 6max is just plain fun once you get used to it.

That said..I am still primarily grinding it at $50 NL because that's where I see the steadiest profit still.

I think you would benefit from Stox and I can also tell you from experience that changing things up (for example switching to a lower limit and a new game) can really do wonders for your mental state. Then you can bump back up to 50 FR or maybe even 50 6max if you like it at $25!

However I certainly can't fault going straight back to $50 FR..I'm not you and I don't know exactly what would be best for you. The above worked pretty well for me though when I was in a funk.

and I had to reply to this as well... WTF? Are you trying to be funny or serious? Cause you aren't funny and if you are serious well I would wager your game needs major help.

$1000 US is plenty to take a shot at $50 NL (20 buyins) although more is better and I personally like to have 25 buy ins ($1250 US) for $50 NL. Your personal mileage on this may vary, but 50 buyins seems like massive overkill to me...

I voted "Switch to 25nl 6max and join Stox now and learn/play", primarily because that's what I did. But really, 6max is a lot of fun and Stox is just amazingly good value (esp. since I didn't pay for it).

On the other hand, 50nl FR is not really harder than 25nl from what i've experienced. I'm just incredibly unlucky at that limit (down 7.5 buy-ins compared to all-in EV), which is what triggered my move to 6max. Then I stayed in 6max because i enjoy it more.

Below is my graph over my short stay at 50nl FR. I guess it explains the move to 6 max better than anything else. :D

Yeah I gave 10nl a run today, after reading some articles on strategy and watching a video. It was, more than anything, a lot of fun. FR at this time of night (1am PST) is boring as hell because all the late night grinders are out and finding tables with VPIPs over 18 are extremely hard to find. I figure if its funner and the game is looser, i have a lot to gain from switching to 6max

how many tables did you play? moving to 6max i started with 2, switched to 4 the next day, and now I do 6 at a time, which seems about right to me. 500 hands/hour playing 20% vpip does keep me busy.

If you're at all unsure of your current abilities, I think a move up to 50NL is a bad idea.

If nothing else, a switch to 6-max will give you more opportunities to play pots, which can regain your confidence quickly, and allow you to mix it up a little bit. Even better, try 10NL 6-max and go crazy. You might find a new playing style that suits you better.

Why not do both? Move up to 50NL and once you feel comfortable dablle in some 25NL 6max. Play like 10K hands of each and workout which you like best, which makes you the most profit ect. I think this is a case of 'test before you buy'

I have turned into somewhat of a BR nit and even I won't wait for 50 BIs to take a shot at a new limit. I think if u feel comfortable taking a shot with 25 BIs for a new limit is fine and then moving back down if u drop 5 BIs (leaving yourself with 40 for the limit below).

As for what you should do icemonkey, its entirely up to you and what you feel like doing. If you are happy playing FR and are rolled for 50NL then go for it. If you are feeling slightly bored with FR and want to do a little 6max, do that. No one can really answer the question of what you should do except yourself. I will say that stox is great, even though I haven't watched too many vids, every one I watched was excellent. I would definitely recommend a subscription at some point in your career, but it doesn't necessarily have to be now.

50 NL 6 max. heater is coming and you are at 6 max to stay. I ground up to 25NL FR and then switched to 25NL 6 max not 50 NL 6 max. FR just doesnt seem as fishy anymore. 6max i will often have ppl stack midle pair against me. we arent even talking TPTK

well this is pretty much 50nl 6 max in a nutshell

pokerstars Game #19810328824: Hold'em No Limit ($0.25/$0.50) - 2008/08/22 - 12:03:08 (ET)

Seat 4: markkEnid ($66.40 in chips)
Seat 5: feitr ($50 in chips)
Seat 6: Lplated ($53.60 in chips)

SNEEKWATER7: mucks hand
feitr collected $92.35 from pot
SNEEKWATER7 leaves the table
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $95.35 | Rake $3
Board [8h Qh Kc 6h 9c]
Seat 1: ullapia folded before Flop
Seat 2: skat tilt folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 3: SNEEKWATER7 (button) mucked [3s 2s]
Seat 4: markkEnid (small blind) folded before Flop
Seat 5: feitr (big blind) showed [Qs Qc] and won ($92.35) with three of a kind, Queens
Seat 6: Lplated folded before Flop (didn't bet)

But it comes down to what you enjoy/are good at. I like 6 max, but i'm much much better at FR so that is what i tend to play the most.

I gotta get me some action like that when I flop a set. I need to play more 6 max it seems since thats where I feel more confident anyhow.

If you can''t run it out on 50nl.
I would say go back to 25nl.
You could better play a limit witch you think it's nice to play and don't be overwalked by ohter players.
What's better to you. Brake even on 50 nl.
Or win a lillte on 25 nl
???

Yeah I'm all but convinced I am moving to 6max. I think for the rest of this month I'll join a coaching site and cut my teeth at 25nl 6max while studying. Once I 'got the ropes' down of the new format and speed of the game I'll go to 50nl 6max.
