This could happen to you. First of all I would like to say that I have been playing on this site for almost two years and had no other problems, but in the past two months a total nightmare. I have put almost $6000 in this site and only cash out a $1000.Well two months ago I put $400.00 back in and did pretty good. Got my account a little over $2400.00.Tried to cash out $1800.00, Guess what, BODOG wouldn’t do it because someone that was linked to me had a negative balance (DIFFERENT NAME, DIFFERENT ADDRESS & DIFFERENT ACCOUNT NUMBER) Guess what my Stepson had used my computer once or twice months ago. Therefore since he owes them $400.00 I cannot with draw MY MONEY. Finally after several phone calls I was aloud to cash out minus the $400.00. I know that in the USA what they did to me would be illegal. But no telling in there country. The way they talked on the phone like they could do anything they wanted to with MY MONEY. Well fortunately I had used my credit card. Therefore I disputed the charged. Guess what the charge card company agreed with me and did a charge back. Well then they send me an e-mail stating that my account is disabled. That’s fine with me, like I’ll really go to play on that site again. Well then comes a second e-mail saying that they are now reporting me to EQUIFAX & TRANS UNIONIST. I call BODOG, boy I though the first phone calls was nasty, but this phone call was worst. Well that, fine, I don’t need to talk to them anymore. Well guess what, a collection agency is calling me now. I wonder why they pay you for your friend’s membership. ARE YOU LINKED? OR HAVE YOU SIGNED ON THAT SITE ON SOMEONE ELSE’S COMPUTER OR VICEVERSEA. I WONDER IF OTHER SITES HAVE THIS POLICY TOO.
GOOD LUCK ON BODOG

I've never understood how anyone can have a "negative balance" on a poker site. Can anyone explain this to me? To me, that would be like loaning money and a poker site would be crazy to do it.

Also, why is that post in a different font? Is it copied & pasted and will we see it verbatum on other poker forums?

i may not be the smartest guy in the world but i'm pretty sure that you can't have a negative balance on a poker site. you deposit, you lose it, you deposit again. pretty simple actually.

well

I personally like bodog and will continue to play there as long as nothing happens to me. I don't have plans on withdrawing anytime soon but im only one that uses my account so shouldn't be a problem.

That story sounds a little weird to me. I've never had any problems at Bodog. If its true, that does suck...

wow that is very strange, I was not aware you could even have a negative balance at a poker site. Seems like it would be a huge liability for the site. Anyways, that is total bs and I hope you dont pay that collection agency. If your credit card agreed that the charge was fraud then you should not worry at all. I guarantee they wont pursue you too hard for 400 dollars.

I play on bodog and actually like them the best out of them all, full tilt being second, hey on the credit issue you should worry about that, you dont need your fico points going down, if the credit card company agrees with you, then thats your dispute and they should not be able to hold you liable, but your story sounds very fishing to me, been playing for over a year, and my mind is racing wondering how the hell do you get into debt on an online poker site, its impossible, which might tell me someone whipped up on you and your pissed as hell. LOL welcome to online poker.

Wow, this kinda got out of hand.

I dont get it. Why was there a collections agency at your door if you paid the 400 for your son and you had a mega profit for your investment?

Also, would really like to know when things happen that you think are either unethical, illegal or just plain scamming....is there anything one can do?

Read it again. The OP supposedly paid the debt with a credit card and then filed a dispute with the credit card company, who then reversed the charge.

I still don't get it ... but then it come with the genes....

...being blonde can be such a curse. Ok, Mr. Sticker, so the credit card deposit was reversed but he had made a profit in excess of the deposit and they didn't let him withdraw it... or did they? Hey it's late, don't make me read it again.

I remember a similar post a couple weeks ago involving a brother's account who owed money or something similar. I'm not sure what company that was, but they wouldn't let that guy withdraw either.

CallmeBaby...you can click "edit" on the previous post and delete it. . .I believe....if you're quick enough.

Hmmm.. I never knew about this before. So assuming its true... then its best no to allow anyone else to register and play on the same site on your com. But Ive heard of many couples playing on the same com, and how do you owe an online poker site money?? Can you just waltz in and ask for an advance? Sounds fake.

Somebody please tell me how I can get a negative balance at a poker site? I really don't want to use my own money if I can use theirs. If I win great, I get money, If I lose I just don't pay it. Perfect. Please tell me how some random donk can do that?

welllllllllll I think there is a way

Someone I know signed up to an instadebit account but they got part of their account number incorrect. Anyway, they were able to deposit the max (400.00) and play with the money. Their instadebit account was frozen the minute the 400.00 didnt clear their bank. Well this person fixed the error ... but imagine if someone was overdrawn at the bank.... so in fact they could play with the money before it cleared. Now in the case of the above individual you would think that a collection agency would have been sent to the stepson's house......unless of course he was underage.... then the poker site would be sool.

I think its instadebit that suffers the loss here if the 400 is gone cause they have already paid the site? Im just babbling here i dont know cause ive never done it that way.

I have friends who play religiously on one site. Had withdrawn all his money from the site to take to the wsop last year. neteller goes down so he can't get money back on the site. They credit him 400 until he can secure a transaction to replace the 400.

He had a rake of over $250k on that site alone in a 6 month period. So, technically he was -$400 at the biginning of this year. That is how you can go negative. You are a high roller and ask for a loan. No other way I can think of unless you scam them and lose it all before they catch the mistake.

I did't have a negative balance,my stepson did. Its take 3 to 7 days for most funds to clear. My stepson played & loss before the funds cleared & at that time the the new laws came into play & the funding he used did not allow the tranfer.

negative balance

the way you could have negative balance is if you don't have the money in your checking account or on the cedit card when you deposit.:deal:

Technically yes....but

I am not totally sure how funding works - but I believe the funding companies are providing the poker sites a service at a lot cheaper rate than credit card companies - so pokersites are beholding to them. If InstaDebit advances a deposit that is rejected by the bank, I don't think InstaDebit will take the whole loss - why should they? They are providing a service to the site so the client can play instantly. If NSFs were a common occurrence and InstaDebit WAS liable for the whole losses, then they would stop advancing money instantly. That would not be in the best interest of the poker site. They probably have some agreement with the pokersite as to how to recover the loss. The poker site is in the best position to recover the loss because sooner or later that individual or some household member may try to play there again - as per the original thread.

I just don't see how they can make you responsible for your step son's losses. If he is over 18 and used an account with his name on it when he did this, he is on his own.

Did he use one of your cards or accounts? Then you should whip him silly because then you are the responsible party for the money. Make him work for $1/hour around the house to pay this off.
