The easiest way to tell is this..

Look at the little stack of brightly coloured round discs in fromt of you, and if you can see them disappearing very very quickly before your very eyes, and no matter what you do you cannot stop it. You flop quad 8s and some git hits a straight flush. You hit the nuts flush and they hit a full house. You hit two pair, they hit three.. You hit A straight, they call your all in with 8 3 and hit a flush.. That kind of thing

Thats when you are on tilt. Its the point at which desperation sets in. No matter what you do it goes wrong and you end up losing.

The cure... kick merry crap out of the dog. Turn off the computer and take the wife upstairs for a night of hows your father...... Then come back the next day feeling bright and cheerful and lose at least feeling sexually fulfilled and in a better frame of mind to take the beating like a man...

agreed... stop playing as soon as you realize this because everything that can possibly go wrong WILL go wrong.

I think that Tilt is when all the Aloha is gone and I just don't care what I do with my chips. Different things can bring it on. But, not caring what you do with your chips is much different than not playing scared. Not caring brings on poor play and RDSS.. Rapidly Diminishing Stack Syndrome.
Avoid this and all other social diseases.

Aloha

Good answer and exactly what has been happening to me lately.

My symptoms of going on tilt,

Decide to multi table to get money back.

Decide to play a higher stake game to get money back.

Loosing up and playing too many hands.

Responding in chat when some one says ty after taking your chips (when im king of the galaxy all people who do this will be killed, revived and killed again)

Genral loss of patience.

Calling any bet on 4th or 5th street with a good hand when im re- raised or basically realise im getting trapped.

Getting knocked out of my sngs on the 1st 4 levels.

Now when I tilt I fpp or freeroll it, if I still want to play.

When i start to tilit i tend to get really frustrated, then start playing really loose calling with ATC hoping to catch a miracle flop and win back the money id lost. Doubtless this leads to me bleeding chips.

Luckily ive learnt to control this now, and whenever i feel im tilting i leave the computer and go get an hours excercise either walking the dog or playing some sport. This helps immensly.

I've always considered Tilt to be making poor decisions - usually in anger or frustration - after losing a hand (or several) that you shouldn't have.

See Phil Hellmuth after a suckout. At least the way they edit the TV shows. . . He often seems to make odd moves for a hand or two after getting beat on the river.
