Hi Kiddk88 and welcome to Cardschat. I've been sick more ways than one during the past 1 1/2 months, so I may have missed your introduction. Kiddk88, I hope you can see the big picture of what all is involved in making such a big step. I want to ask you a few questions, and I hope you will answer them honestly so we all can see where you are at in order to be a help to you if or when you need us.
How much experience do you have playing MTTs and Cash?
At what level will you be starting at?
How much of a BR do you plan to start with? And do you have a clear picture of what BRM is and how important it is to keep it in mind at all times?
What, or where will be your main source for advice, and a place where you can dig up somethings that will answer some of your questions without asking?
What site will you be playing at? Or is there more than one?
Do you have a problem with tilt right now? Besides that problem, do you have any other problems that may interfer with your game?
Do you have any friends off line or online that plays poker, who you can talk with on things you may want to talk over one on one instead of posting it for everyone so you will get a lot of opinions?
Do you have a good place to play, where you won't be disturbed very little?
Will you be playing more than one table while playing MTTs or Cash. Which one do you like the best and is that the only one you play? Or do you like to mix them up like playing one MTT and two cash tables?
What does your family think about your plans to play poker for an income? Or are you planning to keep working and just play 3 or 4 hours in the evening?
Ok just one more even though there are many more. How many hours do you intend to play in a day's time.
To finish up, I want to assure you that every one of these questions had to be answered by you just like the rest of us had to do. You can answer these questions one at a time and don't go on until you have the answer clear in you mind. Setting each one as a goal would be a good idea, because when you reach and goal online or off will build your confidence more than you might think. GL Kiddk88 and get serious about your plans and never give up, because the very next day you may find 1 or 2 things that could be a big boost in your game.
Hey PapaC, sorry for the delay. Firstly, thanks for taking the time out to write your post, all advice is greatly appreciated.
In response to your questions my answers are as follows:
1) The majority of my experience is SNGs and MTTs. I have played some cash but not at a high level (Micros).
2) Id be starting at the bottom pretty much. I have been playing poker on and off for a few years but purely in a fun capacity.
3) I have £5,000 disposal income that I will use as my bankroll, initially. I have a little understanding of BRM but I know I need to look into this further.
4) I don't have a main source of advice at present. I use mainly forums and videos to bounce ideas off people. Potentially looking into a training site (Haven't sourced one yet).
5)
pokerstars , 888Poker &
partypoker.
6) No major problems with tilt. Mainly because of the levels I play and I have a coping mechanism.
7) No friends inside poker presently, I've joined a few forums to interact with people and bounce ideas off.
8) I've got an office that I can use. No noise disturbances.
9) I've been advised to play no more than 4 tables initially.
10) To give my initial question a little more context. I'm a consultant/contractor. I've got bills etc covered for 12-18 months. I rent out a flat also, however, I don't want to use this income.
Family don't agree with it.
I'd be looking to play through the ranks full time. I have no problems playing for larger periods of time, however, I need to think about this so I keep my performance optimal. Any advice here would be welcomed.
Hopefully this will give you a better picture of where I'm at.
Thanks,
Kiddk88
