lol, never seen him show that much emotion. Anyway, I didn't really think he seemed all that cocky. tbh that's how I think every poker player should be. Confidence is a big part of it and if you're scared at the table or wishing that you'll get lucky against a certain player, a win's just an accident. I've made the baseball parallel countless times, if you don't KNOW that you are going to get a hit that at-bat, you probably won't. You have to know you're going to even though you also know that 70% of those times you won't. They aren't mutually exclusive. Same with poker. I'm pretty sure that if I sat down with Phil Ivey I'd be scared of him and get destroyed. And obviously that's not the way to play. If you're trying to beat someone and you think they're better than you, you're going to have a really tough time winning, because they probably are better than you and now you've given them an extra mental edge.

And then when you have someone, who as mentioned has every reason to be cocky, are they going to say "no, I don't think I'm going to win, [another player] is just better than me, but hopefully I get lucky"? Of course not. Ask Phil Hellmuth that same question and you'd see cocky. That was confidence imo and how you simply have to be to be a good poker player. He even hinted at this idea when he said "I think I'm going to win, just as I did the other 7 that I didn't win". I hope that as I progress as a player that I can become more like Phil Ivey in that sense. Not in the way he plays his cards (although if I could do that I'd be really good lol) but in the way he handles himself at the table. Every action he makes is deliberate and he's not a huge show-off at the table or away from it. He knows how good he is, he doesn't need outside confirmation, and as mentioned I'm pretty sure every single muscle he moves is deliberately, and for some purpose, the man is an absolute machine.

He doesn't say anything here that loads of other players say everytime they are asked the same questions.

He does seem more lively than normally when we see him - can we handle a hyperactive Ivey lol :D
