Although, as an outsider, it`s really none of my business, I must say I agree with this.

I have often thought it puzzling how readily Americans seem to have accepted UIGEA and the surrounding nonsense. In most countries of the world, I`d have expected to see rioting in the streets if the authorities had infringed civil liberties and siezed the citizens` money like that.

Here is the US we have another way to express our displeasure....WE VOTE. The two people who were co-sponsors of the UIGEA have been punished. One held the same elected position for over 3 decades and we voted him out of office and the other one got so much negative feedback he went from a presidential hopeful to announcing his "retirement" from politics. The UIGEA's time is nearly done as the movement to repeal it is picking up in momentum. I feel that in another year online gaming will be legal and regulated....and we did it all without destruction of property or loss of life. Ain't democracy great.

Rioting in the streets would have done nothing more than give poker players the bad name and reputation these people want us to have - that is not the answer.

Nobody readily accepted it. You have to fight it in a way that could potentially make a difference and that takes time.

And remember - most Americans don't play poker and could give a damn about it. They probably are not even aware of it.

OK protesting, not rioting. 1 out of 10 ten Americans play poker at least once a month, 1 out of 5 know how to play and like it, 1 out of 20 play regularly. That's a bigger voting demographic then anything else out there. Poker Players Alliance stats, not mine.

PPA is the biggest organization out there fighting for poker players. You should sign the petition on their site. (I see PPA and cringe thinking of Philadelphia Parking Authority). I'm not sure those are exagerated stats....Poker is up there with apple pie in my opinion.

Knowing deep in my heart that sanity will prevail, and sooner than we think. I dream of the day all those who abandoned us will make their play for us once again. Promotions off the scale.

I would think that any site that still lists their winnings in US dollars will be first.

Even PS and FT will have to compete to keep their new found base, so the promos should be hot and heavy.

I dream of these upcoming days, and by then should be a fair enough player to capitalize.

This thread has been unofficially hijacked!

Everyone is a paying member of the PPA.... right?

Really, it is a pretty good deal: $20 for lifetime membership, you get a tee shirt and a nice lapel pin (ribbon design w the card suites on it).

Even players outside the US might consider joining, if only to revitalize the fish farm that is our great country.

I was lucky with the neteller deal. I took all my money out of there one day before the big freeze!! I would have been in a lot of trouble if I hadn't. I always took my money out once a week... Fridays are "payday" for me. Now I use e-passporte, and every time I cash out from a site I immediately withdraw the money from my epass account.

Go to the Poker Players Alliance website and join...you will get regular updates on the "state of poker" like this one....

Dear PPA Members,
We have accomplished so much in so little time! Our membership has grown more than 500% since the first of the year, to over 600,000 members -- thanks in no small part to you telling your fellow poker enthusiasts to join our cause. We are well on our way to our One Million Member target, and I again ask for your help by encouraging your family, friends and tablemates to join the PPA.
In Washington: Things are moving and moving fast. There are 4 bills pending in the House of Representatives that are helpful for on-line poker and our members. We are strongly supporting two of these bills: Congressman Barney Frank's H.R. 2046, the "Internet gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act" and Congressman Robert Wexler's H.R. 2610, the "Skill Games Protection Act".
Other bills include Congresswoman Shelley Berkley's H.R. 2410, which calls for a study of Internet Gaming, and Congressman McDermott's H.R. 2607, which amends H.R. 2610 with a revenue component.
In all, we have a lot of momentum, but we still need your help. I just returned from the world series of poker, where PPA hosted Congressman Wexler. We saw first-hand the growth and grandeur of the sport of poker, and we asked the wsop players for their support. They responded in droves, proving that poker enthusiasts are dedicated activists.
As you know, we are a membership-driven organization and we need your support. We lobby on Capitol Hill and in state capitols to defend poker, but these efforts are not without cost.
We know you agree that poker is not a crime...but we need your help to prevent the coming of the day when the law says it is. Can you assist with an ante up of $5 or more and donate to the PPA, or can you upgrade your membership from an introductory membership to a full membership or even a supporting membership? If you are already a full member, can you consider donating an additional amount for the 2007 campaign?
Please also note we have a store where you can purchase merchandise from PPA hats and t-shirts, to PPA poker tables. Proceeds from these sales go directly to fund our campaign for poker and keep us going strong. Please spare what you can -- think of it as putting in your Ante to say you're Proud to Play Poker!
Regards,
Senator Al D'Amato
Chairman of the Board
