Moving up to $6.00 + 0.50

Been playing pokerstars $3.00 + 0.40 SNG's and have increased my bankroll to a point where I will be trying my luck at the $6.00 + 0.50 level soon.

Is there much difference in the level of play? Are the players at this level any better or do they just have better paying jobs than the people playing $3.00 + 0.40?

G'day Brett. IMO yes the play is very different at this level. I made the move a little while ago and struggled at the start. The $3.40 game is wild! You can pretty much fold your way into the money on that game. The $6.50 is certainly not full of sharks so don't worry about that, but it does involve different types of play.

Do you play 1 table at a time or multi-table? Whats ur BR if your thinking of moving up, or how many buy-ins do u have for it?

The main advice I can give you is, DO NOT play the game the same as the $3 level. pay more attention and pur pressure on weaker players. I think you'll be fine.

IMO, when you move up the SNG ladder, up until $20 or so the good players are about as good at all levels. The difference is that you have less and less of absolutely crappy players that guarantee that you'll have a positive ROI.

$20 and higher you start to see good regulars who actually turn a decent profit from playing.

Oi Brett, forgot to ask, at the $3.40 game, what is your ITM rate and ROI and over what amount of games is it?

As you go up in buy ins, you def notice a lot less of the "all-in" memtality. As far as good or bad, it goes both ways. It's good because people are less likely to outdraw you with a crazy all in bet with lousy cards, it is bad because you do have to work harder to earn your chips. I have gotten as far as playing in the 100-9 tourneys... At that point, there is a HUGE difference in the level of play.

I don't really multi table, I have a small monitor (I know what they say....it's how you use it) and find it hard to play more than 1 game at a time. I do sometimes begin a new SNG when the one I am playing gets to the final 3 or 4 players. I pretty much only play single table SNG's.

Current bankroll is $110 however I like to have 20-25 buy ins at any level so I am not quite there but I think it should only be another week as I have got a bit of time spare to play more often this week.

I have played before on ultimatebet, bodog, purple lounge and party poker. but I don;t have any details from those sites. Got no cash in them either as I pulled it out to go snowboarding earlier this year.

Frankly, if I were you I'd just give $6+.5 a shot right now to test the waters. Just make sure to set a maximum loss beforehand, like drop down to $3+.4 immediately if your BR drops below $100. But there's nothing like experimenting for you to realize the difference in playing styles/quality between the two levels.
