In case you think the Donks go away as you move up.....

I was moving all my info from my old XP Computer to my new Dell Vista and testing sound and such - when I happened to open a $25/$50 No Limit Cash game for just a minute on poker stars

The one hand I paid attention to ... The players had (A)$7500 and (B)$5000 in front of them as Player A made a raise to $150 (with what turbed out to be KK) and B called (with what turned out to be A3s).

Player B made a pair of 3s on the flop and called a flop bet. But the action heated up on the turn when Player B made a flush draw with his pair of Threes - checked raised - and then found a push ALL-IN from player A.

Next thing I know Player B called $3500 with a pair of threes AND a flush draw - of course, only to hit the flush draw and a cool $10,000

Just thought it was pretty funny - well except for the poor guy with pocket Ks. I just might have to watch 25/50 at PS more often.

Well, you can't be too sure what kind of leveling went on there, but yes, the occasional donkey can be found just about anywhere.

If a $10,000 pot gets you excited, maybe you should check out RailHeaven on Fulltilt. Taking durrrr as an example, his tableratings stats say that his biggest loss was KK vs. AA in a $720,000 pot.

How about something a little more personal? One of my best friends, who I can honestly say is one of the best poker players ive ever met, just went to vegas to play for a month(he plays for a living locally but decided to make some good money in vegas). I dont know the specific amount, but his BR is roughly 55k. He called me last night to tell me he saw the softest 100/200 NL game running at the Bellagio. He sat down with 15k to make it a 5 handed game with $400 auto straddles. He ran it up to 27k and got his money in with KK against the donktard millionaire straddler with AQ. No need to tell you Mr. Millions clips an Ace on the turn for a ~$50k pot. My buddy seemed surprisingly comfortable with losing 1/2 his roll in one hand. Ugh.

To reinforce the OP, yes, fish are everywhere.

Geez, calling with AQ in the virtual BB (because of the straddle) makes you a donktard? If the guy is a millionaire, you realize that the $25K or so he made that call with is like you making a call with AQ for 2 cents in a micro game.

I'm sorry your friend lost half his roll, but he should have better BRM anyway, no matter how soft the game is). And it's not like the guy called off with like 83 off.

I have been seeing this move and can`t tell if its a donkey move or a shrewd way to get someone to tilt. 2 players in a modestly bet hand, playing 1/2 NL(check, check, bet, call, bet, call, bet) ends with the guy in position going all-in on the river, like tossing in $200 allin on a $30 pot, a super obvious overbet. Like WTF! There`s no way I can calls this with TPTK or even two pair with a totally uncoordinated board. Set? bluff? Genius? I see it in AC and in low limits online it happens every day. Anyone else see this trend? Am I wearing a neon sign over my head the blinks, WEAKNESS? Is it my fault betting out of position?

thats why i hate playingbig stake ring games. I would rather do a 1000$ sit and go, or big guerenteed tourny. Sure if you win a hand in a ring game its big, but if you loose its even worse sucks too be KK

While its mostly true that play gets better as you go up, as with almost everything there are exceptions. A wealthy beginner isnt gonna start at a 1/2 table and learn to play the game. Its all relative 20 bucks means something to some while to others it might be a penny.

Long ago I gave up believing that donks only play in low stakes poker. Look at the rags that Sammy Farha plays on High Stakes Poker! OK, maybe his post-flop play is superior. But, still it's hard to make-up for bad starting cards.
