This weekend I went to Vegas with the intention to lay by the pool with a hard cocktail. Rarely do I ever go to play the tables. However, this time being a new poker player I figured I'd take the skills I learned from my online poker sites and use 'em at the tables.

You remember back in school when you studied so hard for a test that when you got to the actual test, you just blanked on the test and completely bombed? Well, I ended up broke and at the penny slots next to an old lady who smelled like pechouli and ranch dressing. I won back about 15 dollars playing the slots, but sometimes winning just isn't quite winning.

online poker is fun for the sheer fact that it gives you an idea of how to play cards, but as far as real-life playing it is nothing compared to the real tables. I mean, there is nothing intimidating about an animated hick wearing a red bandana who's name is "hub-bubby" that frightends me. But when there's a guy sitting next to you that fully looks like he's from Michigan and probably plays football with his two high-school-all-star-football boys, then I become a little worrisome and begin to sweat. If I'm going to do online poker, it's going to be FUN. With a lot of visual stimulations. There's very little stimulating from sites like Full Tilt, or pokerstars (well, the characters are fairly fun to look at). If you want fun, Knockout Poker has one that is actually really cool. It's kinda like walking into a trendy nightclub: you feel like it's exclusive but it's open to everyone.

Nevertheless, if you want to become an experienced poker player and learn how to call bluffs, then just go to a local casino and play the low-blind tables. I wish I had done that beforehand instead of sitting down and expecting a funny little cowboy named "Charlize" to be right across from me--- sometimes the web just isn't trustworthy.

Oh ok, guess I follow now. OP, you know there is no tackling in poker, right? ;) Pretty sure I'd be more intimidated by Dario Minieri than Pacman Jones at a poker table.

How long have you been playing online poker?

How much live poker experience do you have?

What stakes do you usually enter?

What stakes did you enter?

MODS: Please change the title of this thread from "I was cheated" to "I was intimidated". I see no evidence of "cheating" in the OP.

Or change it to "Wild Naked Boobies" since it would make about as much sense. :)

EDIT: Or how about "I was cheated... NOT!" ?

At first i thought he was saying how he enjoyed playing online instead of casinos, but in the end he said how you should go play low blinds at your local casino. Am i reading this right?

I think its far more intimidating having really hot women at the table (players or dealers) than big angry looking men. The ladies they just break my concentration.

I have never seen violence at the poker table even though sometimes there are some tensions between players and there have been times when I wanted to punch another player, but instead of violence you should channel that into beating the guy fot all his money.

If you feel intimitated you could wear some head protection :)

Yeah.. head protection which would ALSO prevent giving away tells. A motorcycler's helmet with a tinted visor would be cool.

I played about 40k online hands this year and my play at the casino has improved drastically. The betting is way different but in general, it is the same game as micro stakes online. Don't get intimidated by the players, it's a game of whits not brawn.

you were intimidated at a poker table?
you obviously dont have alot of faith in ur self, when i sit down at a table i like to think to myself, "ouch you guys are in a world of pain now"

so long as you play ur normal game its all good, not like they gona punch u for beating them..

man up dude, be a man...

I'm guessing you're playing 1/2 NL. You're in a casino dummy, what can those presumptive loudmouths possibly do to you? You will occasionally be forced to make a decision to gamble at points, but any decent player can decimate those tables with a little focus, patience, and target practice. Make some conversation if you have to loosen up. It's not the Big Game, I usually wink and smile at the young clowns who come in stonefaced, shaded up, and looking to champion it all.

I started a reply to the OP, and then realized half way through that nothing I said would probably matter to the guy, so I quit.

Play defensive poker and wear pads and a helmet
