I used to try and do what they told me I should do. I tried to choke on pots, **** my mother, play like an idiot, I gave up listening to them when I tried to **** myself tho. It just simply wasn't happening, no matter how much I bent it.

Now I just ignore it and count my money

They are trying to get you angry {tilt}.

Ignore the ***holes and take their chips.

You'll feel great and just piss them off more.

I have turned chat off on all of my sites unless there is a rail going. Think about it objectively... what is gained by anything written in chat? Would you believe someone even if they told you exactly what they have? It is really just noise and a distraction, turn the chat off and concentrate on the game.

As Dan Harrington says, for $10 I will tell you what I had, for $20 I will tell you the truth, and for $100 I will show you my cards.

I barely ever look at the chat. I will comment on hands that I think are good (after the fact of course, rather than during like some idiots), but other than that, I usually just try to ignore it. If I happen to see somebody being a jackass, most of the time I just laugh at it because, to me they are attempting to put me on tilt, where it seems like they are the ones who are tilted :p

I think the poker rooms must have some regulation. If the cant deal with the players who cursed at others instantly,at least they must punish them through checking the chat records.

Some people are just like that. They will gloat when they win and complain when they lose. God forbid you suck out on them. Then they will probably wish you a slow painful death from ass cancer. They might be having a bad day or a bad life or something. But it's a pretty safe bet that their problems likely go way past the poker table. Anyhting you say in reply is pretty much wasted words. In fact, it will most likely only add fuel to their fire.

For others, this all part of their strategy. They will criticize the hands you play or the way you play them in an attempt to throw you off your game. They want you to become self concious about the way you are playing until you start second guessing yourself. I've seen someone criticize every other player at the table, bleeding chips the whole time. He actually trashed a player for playing two cards. Then played the exact same two cards two hands later. Again any reply or rebuttle is going to fan the flames. So don't bother. And don't try defend yourself by explaining why you played your hand the way you did. That's just giving away information.

I don't like to turn the chat off, because I might miss out on recognizing when an opponent is going on tilt. And I do wish it was as simple as not letting it bother you. The fact is that it's hard not to let insults and sometimes even racial slurs get to you. Understanding the motive is a step in the right direction. You need understand that the whole point is to distract you from playing your best game. In fact it's not even personal. The person talking trash and slinging insults could probably care less about you. It means nothing to them. But they want more than anything for you to take it personal. They want you seeing red and thinking about nothing but taking their chips and shutting them up so much that it clouds your judgement.

If and when people acting like jerks in chat is enough to affect your game, then turn it off. Whatever advantage you gain from reading it is not enough.
