Ziigmund is there because it'll make all the internet poker nerds pay special attention to this season. Plus he's an action player, which makes for good TV in theory.

I'm digging this season.

If you don't know why Ziigmund is there, you need to do your research. Like Oz said, he is a high stakes ACTION player. He will make the game interesting. Wouldn't hurt him to talk a bit more though. Eastgate as well. Yeah, yeah, English is not their first language...

Yea they need players like Ziggy to make the show more interesting. If they had 9 tight players playing, it'd be the boringest show ever. Doyle's been playing such tight poker its unusual.

I hope Doyle is gone soon, he annoys me so much. I wish he would just go away.

People can understand that the wrong way you know.

You're right..

I just mean that I wish he would stop going on televised poker shows because he's just a grumpy old man and brings nothing to the table other than the fact he has been playing for ages.

You're missing the point though.

Doyle is the godfather of poker - having him on the show instantly gives it credibility. If someone's only got a few hours to watch poker this week, will the watch a WPT final table with six nobodies on it, the wsop rerun with nine nobodies on it, or will they watch the game that Doyle's playing? I'd like to think Doyle wins that contest a good chunk of the time.

He also appeals to a different demographic. There are people out there who'd turn off if the show was just Ziigmunds and Durrrrs bluffing each other all the time, because as far as they're concerned that's not real poker.

Besides, it's not as if he's playing Paul Wasicka tight or anything, and his constantly calling the wrong hands for people is giving Gabe Kaplan some amusing material :p

I don't think these people exist. How exactly is bluffing each other not real poker?

Gabe Kaplan said it himself in the latest episode's commentary:

"Doyle's saying 'I hate it when they win with king-nine - don't they know it's hard to make the nuts with king-nine? What's this world coming to?'"

Obviously he's putting words in Doyle's mouth, but it's a view that a lot of people share. There are older people who watch poker on TV and remember the good old days when playing king-nine didn't get rewarded and the game wasn't just internet kids playing bad hands and bluffs.

I'm not one of those people, FWIW, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. So it's an easy call for the producers to put guys like Doyle in the game to cater for this generation, especially when he's a drawcard for the younger generation as well (I know he is for me).

Gabe's joke is just a grumpy old man stereotype - I don't think he's giving voice to any community here.

Doyle himself has shown interest in Dwan's play on HSP and has commended LAG youngsters like Benefield on PAD.

I don't see how you can be so sure that there are "a lot of people" who "remember the good old days when playing king-nine didn't get rewarded". Is this based on personal experience or just speculation?

I've dealt to them. I've sat next to them in casinos. Trust me, they exist.

I can't believe Eastgate folded that set. He had everyone right where he wanted them, and got bluffed off because he was afraid of his kicker. Or maybe he is just more afraid of losing his cash than all the other players. That does have to be intimidating playing for pots that could pay off the average persons mortgage.

I think the line up is kinda weak. It would help alot if Daniel was winning too. The more he wins the more pots he woould play against Durr and Eli. To me Esgate is kinda boring. He`s certailnly not gambling much. Barry is playing tight and Doyles playing small ball poker. All in all I think it`s kind of a weak season so far. I hope they put Durr, Daniel,Eli and Farha together. To me this would be an absolute dream table w/ 200K-500K ea.
