Anybody watch the new episode of High Stakes Poker last night? Surprised nobody commented on Todd Brunson's questionable raise motion against Laak. Didn't see how they ruled that...but seemed like Todd was out of line.

Yes I know what you're talking about. When todd pushed his chips in the pot but didn't drop them, he drag them back to his chip stack. After Todd fold, Laak exploded saying that Todd was torturing him that how could he make a move like that into the pot. And I think they concluded that it was an okay move, since it was cash game NOT tournament. I don't know what to think about that move, since in my home games when some one says call it's a call, and since Todd didn't say call at all it's a questionable move. Any opinion on Todd or the casino rules?

That episode's a repeat from 2007. That hand came up in this longer post about forward motion / binding action at the wsop:

https://www.cardschat.com/forum/gen...ruling-last-nights-wsop-me-131358/index2.html

FWIW, here's Phil Laak's blog analysing the hand:

http://alwaysbluff.com/poker/poker-...son-and-myself-on-high-stakes-poker-season-4/

Cliff notes from the above:

- In a Vegas casino (other than the one HSP is filmed in), there's absolutely nothing wrong with what Todd Brunson did. Brunson usually plays in Vegas casinos.

- In LA (like the ones Laak often plays in) the "forward motion" rule is enforced in about half the casinos, and there would've been something wrong with Brunson's actions if he was playing at one of them.

Yea i saw that episode. He was kinda out of line and laak blew up like a bomb which was reasonable. But the casino had their rule so they just let that go.

yep, i just asked the dealers at crown casino, seems like forward motion is not recognised as a call. in fact, a couple even told me it's a good way to entice tells from your opponents.

imo, i think it's a pretty cheap move, like angling, checking or acting outta turn on purpose.

I was kinda disappointed that Todd would do something like that. Seemed like a childish thing.

Boy it sounds like a silent call to me. Legal or not, for me, it is an iffy move.

Laak's blog of this was interesting. He was more interested (after the fact) that different casinos have different rules. He did not think Todd was angling or trying to get away with something.
