Just read this in email i got

July 9, 2007 (PRWEB) – The poker world is holding its breath today after a freak accident on the Las Vegas strip in which poker legend Phil Hellmuth lost control of his high-speed racecar.

Hellmuth had spent the day testing the 200 mph racecar in the Nevada desert. Upon approaching his hotel, the 11-time wsop bracelet winner lost control of the vehicle and crashed head-on into a pole.

While the racecar was totaled, witnesses report that Hellmuth was conscious as he left the vehicle unscathed but visibly shaken. According to one onlooker, Hellmuth quipped, “Well, you can’t win every race.”

With the Main Event of the World Series just hours away, it’s still unknown whether the pro will recover in time to vie for the Main Event title and a 12th WSOP bracelet.

"I'd be amazed if he was able to play poker today after such a high-speed collision,” stated eyewitness Brian Balsburgh of Poker Royalty. “He had severe whiplash.”

Hellmuth’s Main Event start time was scheduled for 12pm on Monday, July 9th. While friends are no doubt praying for a quick recovery, foes are likely relishing in his misfortune. After all, Hellmuth’s absence from the floor at the Rio Hotel & Casino definitely makes the playing field a lot less fierce.

Ok first off what the hell is he doing driving a NON STREET LEGAL car on the street???

Second its a slap in the face when your out doing donuts and 200mph then you wreck probably trying to park lol.....

This is almost as funny as Eddie Griffith crashing his $1 MILLION Ferrari Enzo going like 20mph.

you know you guys are talking about a person you only know on the poker table? You know this guy could be 100% different away from the table.

let me make a example.

If I said the Name Tony G. what would you say?

Im guessing something like, that guy is a jerk, he is mean, he is inconsiderate, right?

at the table you would be 100% correct but away from the table he is totally different, and most that know him personally say he is a nice guy. Phil might be the same way, he might just let his emotions get the best of him at the table. So before we pass judgement on someone I think we should really know them and not just from what espn shows at the table. Also we could just be seeing the times he is a baby at the table and not the 100x times he is respectful, espn is about ratings and Phil going babyish sells.

really I see no distinction here referring to while playing poker at all. Not trying to make big deal about this at all trust me, and remember my 2nd point I made that ESPN is known for showing just the bad side of Phil.

Gotta agree with Brian here... If you watch/read most interviews with other poker players, they will keep saying how Phil is really a great guy away from the table, and only his meltdowns (as frequent as they are) are shown on TV.

C'mon now, how many of us have done some sort of blowup/ obscenity laced rant/ funky dance/ throw mouse through window/ just go blazing ballistic!... when we get dealt a excruciatingly bad beat?

Now imagine it was filmed. :)

The media created Phil Hellmuth, not the other way around. Props to Hellmuth for using what the media has spun to his advantage. The guy has 11 bracelets and is one hell of a poker player, no doubt about it. You may luck your way into 1, maybe even 2... but not 11. As for his cry baby antics, it's all a table image and part of the persona the media has created for him. Yes, he get's frustrated just like any player but the guy knows what he's doing. He doesn't even seem like that bad of a guy when he is at the table and he usually gives his opponents credit when it is due. I mean how many guys do you know that flop top pair with AK and can lay it down knowing someone is holding AA? He can dodge bullets, but apparently not poles?

If you look closley and slow it down a bit you can see him slamming on the front brakes and smoke starting to form right before he hits. I don't understand why he is driving in that parking lot with all of those cars. I thought he was going to hit that PT Cruiser at one time.

It was staged, just to remind folks at the poker tables, he can get out of control when HE WANTS TO!

If it were stagged he should have made it really dramatic. Make it look like he died, life flight him out, then all of the sudden he walks in the poker room in an all white tux!! That would have been sweet, then to top it off, him come in and win another braclet.
