I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm a little tired of seeing guys running around and fist-pumping after they win a big pot in a live poker tourney. I was glad to see that Matusow got penalized after such a display at an event at the wsop.

I've never played in a big event like that. Have you guys ever seen somebody go a little nuts after winning a hand in a local tourney? I have only played a few live tourneys and haven't seen anything like it yet, but I figure it's just a matter of time.

I just think you win with class and you lose with dignity.

Yes of course sometimes it is very difficult to restrain their emotions but it is worth to observe Poker etiquette.

Even in football excessive celebration can led you to a yellow card. And this is WSOP,somebody got to maintain the order.

Although I think an "excessive celebration" is a bit childish and tacky, I believe it is "ok" so to speak.. I know some don't like Mike's antics at the tables, but they make for good TV.. And up until this instance, I don't think he has been penalized for this in the past (at least not to my knowledge).. Now, being it is the WSOP, and it is certainly no easy task to obtain a bracelet... Is it not "ok" to celebrate a little, or get caught up in the moment? I just agree with Daniel N.'s point of view (which is sure where this thread idea stemmed from) that he should, at the very least, be warned, BEFORE being penalized for an orbit... Especially when it's down to 100 or so player remaining, and considering what chips stacks are worth, in correlation to blind levels at that point. YIKES, I sure feel for Mike in this instance.

Excessive celebrations for me are going a little too far! I've seen some WPT episodes to wehre phil laak won a pot and was running around, spinning on the floor and shaking the hands of the railers!

I believe a fist pump is ok but not much more! Of course I've never came close to winning any kind of pot that big so hard to say what I would do. I might end up acting like an idiot like the rest of them too!

However I believe it is important to win like you lose and show class at the table! I can understand celebrating a little bit more if you win a tournament but after a big pot just do a fist pump and get on with the business!

Lol, live I have seen to feast winning hands but not so madly, some of them are very expressive and the adrenaline that generates the poker does that they exaggerate his feasts

tide much sometimes make much money at once, and also you win you lose. I read the other day that a player earn enough money in the wsop and went from there he went to the casino and lost everything. lol

I don't think you should be penalized.

If you are directly making fun of the player and trash talking when you win, that should be a penalty. Running around happy you won a pot in a big buy-in tournament I think is completely justified.

Just my personal opinion.

It's bad enough to be on the bad end of a losing hand without having to deal with some ass who wants to act like an idiot thinking they are a poker god because they won a pot. It's just bad sportsmanship and shows a lack of class. If these dorks were on the losing end of this hand they certainly wouldn't want this reaction.

It just shame on that guy to celebrate a big pot win on a live tournament, there's another player who lost a lot of chips, celebration shows that this guys is under-experienced and was not waiting to won that pot...

I look at it like this, if you have large amounts of money invested into these tournaments, like wsop players do, then you can show some excitement if you win and/or lose. As long as you keep it respectable and within guidelines

If I was to ever win one of those tourneys or even a big pot who's to say I wouldn't act like an idiot too?

Celebrating after you win the tourney is entirely different than strutting around after you win a big pot (likely knocking another player out of the tourney). It just shows a lack of class to me. But I'm an old school guy. I always liked how Barry Sanders would score a touchdown and then either hand the ball to a referee or give it to one of his linemen to spike and do the celebration. I believe his dad told him, "When you score a touchdown, act like you've been there before."

I agree teepack, these guys that play in these big tournies should not act like an idiot just because they won a big pot, i mean be happy maybe fist pump but to get up and dance and embarass the guy that lost shows no class.

There are players who get intimidated by this stuff and that might work against them. If I were a player at the table, I would demand the dealer not suspend play to get through all of these histrionics. I noticed that when Hellmuth would get knocked out, he would carry on at the table and insult people and the dealer froze. I would ask the dealer why he she was not shuffling and dealing instead of allowing the players to have to sit through this. As said before, it is good TV

Dealing with Hellmuth's babyish antics is a lot different, because at least the guy acting like a jerkwagon lost.

Mike Matusow's under-experienced. Hadn't heard that one before.
