729 winners only tournament

Has anyone heard of this format? The tournament starts at 729, 81 tables of 9. Each table plays down to a winner, leaving 81 players. Those cash. Then the tournament is randonmly split into 9 tables of 9, again the winners advance to a final table of 9.

I think it sounds like a good format that should be experimented online.

this format is called a shootout, they are already online but dont have a set number of players needed to start. i guess 729 rounds down well but they can just make the first set of tables shorthanded to solve any math problems.

Or "Knockout tournament".

I tried it once, it was fun. The problem is the discrete (3) rounds: once you win your table, you need to wait for all the other 80 tables to find their winner.... which can take half an hour or similar.

Shootouts and knockout tourneys are very different types of games.

Called a "Shootout". I agree that waiting for the other tables can be tiresome but I try and multi table but even then it catches up with me sometimes. I enjoy these types of games.
