Well, I finally made it to my 1000th post (actually, my 1000th post was a single word response--so unlike me!).

For each one I've written, I'm sure I've read at least 10 others. Thank you CC for everything you have taught me so far. It's a great journey and I'm looking forward to what comes next!

All I really need to know about poker I learned in kindergarten (with apologies to Robert Fulghum):

Play nice. I see a lot of value to being respectful at the tables. Avoid criticizing how someone played a hand. Don't call other players names. Some may say it helps put others on tilt. I say it makes you look stupid.

Be polite. Remember to say thank you. When you are participating in chat, or at live games, I think it is a classy thing to say "good game" (gg) and "nice hand" (nh)

Take turns on top of the slide. You will not always be the leader in a hand, even with AA. It's still only a pair and can be cracked.

Learn you ABCs. Poker fundamentals are essential starting blocks in being good at your game. And then, don’t forget the rest of the alphabet! Never think you have nothing more to learn because if you do, you'll quickly be behind. That's why I love poker; I am always learning something.

It's good to make friends. Let others help you along. Use the forum and the collective wisdom of posters to improve and learn. It’s OK to ask for help when you're stuck. Post hand histories, ask questions.

Pay attention. During your game play, watch what others are doing. Follow along in the hands you aren’t playing and learn about player tendencies.

Remember nap time. It is really important to get plenty of rest. To play your "A" game you need to be in the right frame of mind. It is hard to play well when you are tired and cranky.

Eat your vegetables. Eating well and exercising consistently will improve your game. A healthy body makes you a better player. Don't forget to get outside and run around from time to time. Fresh air and sunshine will do you wonders.

Patience is a virtue
. Sometimes you’re card dead for a while and then bad hands start looking good. As hard as it is, hang in there and be patient. Stay smart and don't get desperate.

Be gentle with animals. Don’t aggravate the fish. Loose, recreational players without a lot of skill help us make money so treat them nicely and keep them in the game.

Don’t take things that aren’t yours. Well, in poker, sometimes that’s OK. But remember, that other player is bluffing much less often than you think. That bet on the river usually means they have something.

Flush. Often the nuts, but be careful when the board pairs.

Wash your hands. Have you looked at your keyboard lately?!

Lmaoo great post. Did you have this in plan for awhile?

It seems to be well thought through, and great relationship comparison between the basic knowledge of real life and ABC poker!

Wash your hands, ever look at a dealer's hands even at a blackjack table? The folks over at the penny slots even have a more terrible time. At least if you leave empty handed, you will smell like money.
