This is obviously incorrect.
2k hands is a blip, there are very good winners (not me ) who have downswings or break even stretches that go for over 100k hands.
Lets take an example from my own database:
- 2 weeks ago I had a daily session where I was down 5BI over 1.5k hands while running exactly 5BI under EV and I had another
exactly same one 4 weeks ago.
- During this stretch I also has 1.5k and 2.5k sessions where I run 5BI over EV (which obviously also influenced results heavily).
- For extra fun example, yesterday and last night I played 4.5k hands winning 7BI while running 3BI over EV despite losing badly over first 2k hands (running under EV)... and that is one freaking day!
... and my total 5NL database is only 135k hands (which means I am a small baby compared to many regulars on this forum). 'Nuff said.
To recap, shit happens and short term is short term and a player can't be depressed over it.
Yes quality of play is also an influence but sometimes it is hard to differentiate the reasons for failure (especially since a lot of runbad doesn't even show on EV differential) + unless you are destroying a level you will have large swings over 10-20k hands sometimes and there is nothing that can be done about it.
