Today I was playing 2nl rush at full tilit and only about 70 players were on, and theres this guy who had around 250bbs and was open shoving every hand. I had seen him open shove about 4-5 times when i had rags each time and had to fold.

So I wait patiently and this guy comes up again, He's on the button and open ships it for $4.50 and I call with A5s for 120bbs effective, he shows up with KTo and flops a king, I dont improve.

about 15 hands later again hes in the SB I am in the BB and he open ships, this time for 100bbs (so obviously he busted and re-buyed). I call with T9s Figuring its fine considering hes open shoving literally every hand I must be slightly ahead at least. he has 84o and rivers a 4 to take it down.

My question anyway is, were both my calls correct? I ran it through poker stove and i was 60/40 favourite and 55/45 favourite against a random hand. Or would I have been better off folding and playing low variance style?

Well if you have greater equity, the calls turned out to be correct. But its up to you if you want to make high variance calls like this. These type of players I don't mind calling when I have a decent bankroll for the stakes I'm playing.

It depends on your bankroll. If it's big enough to go by your 60/40 swings then it's alright, both calls were correct. Otherwise you should wait for better hands against him. I would say A10 and TT+ will be dominating him often.
