Can't say if your play was bad or not, not enough info. But keep in mind that players really can get 3 good hands in a row, and this tiny sample is not enough to peg him as a maniac or otherwise. Those may have been the only 3 hands out of the last 50 that were good enough to play, or he may be wild and just happened to pick up QQ.Here is the situation: full ring no limit cash, a player 3 positions before me raised two hands to 3bb, everybody folded...i am on button with JJ, he raises from mid pos 3bb, I reraise 3 x his raise, he waits a sec and goes all in...I call, he shows QQ and wins...was my choice wrong and why?
The third raise is MORE likely to be a big hand. The LAG knows people are aware of his raising, so after raising a couple in a row he will usually cool it for a bit, but when he starts getting big hands, he can expect to get action form a raise. It is a nice trick to occasionally pad your stack; steal 2 or 3 hands and return to TAG. If you pick up a big hand, go ahead and raise with the expectation of getting some reckless action. He is, in essence, forcing you to gamble with him, but he gets to pick the pots when the money goes in.
