Where to begin? Our story picks up three months after The Hound made his unexpected departure from the cardschat BBV forum. The mutterings from the underground said heíd gone bust, or just lost interest in degenerate internet gambling. But you alone shall know the real truth. For the story is much more complicatedÖ.
Well not really. Iíll sum it up in a few sentences: I had moved up to NL10 with around a 30BI bankroll, everything was going fairly mediocrely for a couple of months, then suddenly I managed to lose around 35% of that roll in about 5 days and was forced back into the pits of NL5 from whence I came. But, I rallied. I worked my way back up, and through NL5 and a little bit of luck in the pub live game I resumed my status as an NL10 6max grinder. Only with a little extra variance padding this time. Suffice to say, I didnít feel like blogging much during that experience. Terrible, I know. But Iím back now! Not only have I been humbled by my experience, but Iíve gained a new outlook on studying and how I approach the game.
But lets leave that for another day and set some goals.
My main aim is to move up in stakes as quickly as possible. But, more importantly to improve my game to become a strong winner as quickly as possible.
Playing Poker: Ok so after doing a little bit of research I have decided to move at least 50% of my sessions from 888 ring to Pokerstars zoom. I find it better to allow learning whilst playing. Playing one table and therefore one hand at a time, you get to think about you range, their range and all the different options available. But, the hands come quickly so you donít get bored. The only problem is that being a 3rd yr student I have less time to dedicate to playing. Therefore I have a hard decision to make about playing. Quality vs quantity?
To start I will allow myself 15-18hrs of pure playing time a week, trying to play 24-30K hands a month ∴ I will need to play around 365 hands/hr (minimum). So If I try playing a 2:1 ratio of single tabling zoom to double tabling. I think should be able to get close to this whilst maintaining a lot of my A game play.
Studying Poker: Another reason for single tabling zoom is that I need to increase my confidence in my game and I think studying and reviewing my strategy is the best way to do this. Therefore I will try to allocate 8-10hrs to study my game. The majority of this should be going over my own hands/database. For example I may spend an hr reviewing hands before a session.
Drink that Jack Daniels!: For my birthday last year (weíre talking September,) a friend of mine bought be a bottle of JD. This has been sat on the shelf in my room for almost 4 months. I set myself the rule that I can only open it once I am confident that I have beaten NL10 over a statistically significant sample. So I have to be winning but also have confidence that Iím playing good. Since The Hound is down around 15BI at NL10, we can assume that this goal may take a while...
Blog: Finally I want to keep this thing updated. I think >once a week is perfectly doable.
anddddddd thatís all I got right now. Sorry for the length but the first one is always gonna be long. Come back next time for an update on how weíre trucking along.
