To begin, I would like to make the disclaimer that I do NOT consider myself to be a good player. I am a losing player, with decent knowledge and I take the game seriously.
Now, with that out of the way, I'd like to ask higher level players about their opinion on creative plays at the micro stakes. In general, should I attempt these plays or am I out-thinking myself? For example, I'm facing a 3-bet in the small blind with and I make the 4-bet knowing that a.) my opponent is 3-betting terribly from the button b.) I want to narrow my range by raising large out of position and c.) he/she will fold the majority of the time in this spot. This is all for nothing as I'm called to showdown with , with myself missing a straight flush draw and the villain with ace high (board was ).
I know that this is an extreme example and one that I shouldn't let bother me, however, plays like this make me question whether or not it is appropriate to implement higher level strategies/play into my game at this time. Whenever I try to read a hand, I am playing under the assumption that my opponent is being reasonable in his/her play. My guess at their line and combos are way off the majority of the time. To be clear, I'm not blaming them; I could stand to get a lot better at the game. I just want to understand if I should be making these types of plays in the first place. If, in general, the population is able to call with A9o in that situation and call all the way down with a flush on the board and at least 2 cards that could easily be in my range, why should I implement anything other than a TAG strategy?
Please consider this post a legitimate question and not whining. Again, I am a losing player just trying to find his way.
Edit: I can't get the Ace to show in my hand. It's Ad5d. The villains hand is showing but not mine.
