Freeroll Trauma..

Hi all...im a newbie and have been playing freerolls recently...

Heres my situation...

I came in 4th in my first Full Tilt 2700 player freeroll and I then won/came in top 50 in a poker stars sattelite...

But in my last 3 freerolls i have lost aa vs. 33...aa vs 77 and just now qq vs. 10 10...

I have been short stacked so those were my spots to shove but I just dont get the bad beats each time in a row.

I usually come out raising 5x bb with position and get reraised so I shove and have gotten killed everytime.

I know this is limited info. but does anyone have any tips on my play? Should I be doing anything diff?

P.S. I just started playing super tight and last until mid tourney with my short stack but when I get my hand....

lol you're asking if you should be doing anything differently when you get your money in as a 4:1 favorite...

To be fair, the only consistency I see is that the bad beats are becoming an issue because they're either a)Crippling you or b)Busting you out of the tourney.

The only way to offset the bad beats is to chip up. And usually, the more aggressive style of play is what gets you awarded with both more small pots than the average player, and also rewards you when you're pushing all in with a monster, and the second nuts calls you as they think you're bluffing.

It seems to me like you're somewhere in the Tight-Aggressive to Tight-Passive type of player. This strategy is usually successful if you're a cash game player (Tight Aggressive in No Limit, Tight-Passive in Limit), but given the circumstances, you really do have to take a bit more risks midway through the tourney.

Understand that in a freeroll, the motivation to gamble it up is sooooo much higher than in a regular buy-in tourney. You can either choose to exploit it by setting tricky traps and trusting your reads, or, you can get your hands dirty and be one of the maniacs who can steal pots here and there.

In freerolls, I would definitely veer more toward a looser style of play, more between Tight-Aggressive and Loose-Aggressive.

But all in all, I do agree with vanquish's comment. There's no more advice you need if you got all your chips in with the best hand.

imo 5x bb bets are a little overkill, i usually do 2.5-3x and sometimes 4x when there are limpers in back of me.. but that's a personal preference.

the big thing to worry about is which side you are on. the immediate outcome, as some people come to realize, is really meaningless if you play long term. you just need to be on the correct side of the play. stated another way: it's much better that you lose with the far superior hand than you win with the far underdog hand.

so if you're money is going in at the right times, then just be happy it did, and if you get beat then so be it.

So after reading the comments I will not be deterred and will continue to go in with the best when neccessary and I will also try to loosen up a bit earlier in the tourney to steal when the risk wont be too costly.

I got a 9pm freeroll right now so lets see...

you sound motivated. i like that.

next time you play, make sure you're trying to make the best decisions you can. once you do that, you'll profit hugely.

Surely you want to be playing against these players who are going in with worse hands, you just got unlucky and what makes a player is if they can keep getting in these positions where they are dominating then you will see it start to get better, even good hands get beaten

Keep playing.Play as much you can.And remember any 2 cards can lose

those were the bad beats you remember do you remember the bad beats that took place to win those freerolls in your advantage?
