re: Poker & Do you get bored playing cash? How do you overcome it?
Your post and your title are not really congruent.
Title: How to overcome boredom.
Post: I want to play and get lucky, and ignore standard rules of BRM.
I am not trying to be mean. But, that is a pretty accurate summation, IMHO.
As far as BRM, well, it is up to you. MTT and STT - and zoom, btw. - are all high variance poker. You are on a heater. The cooler will eventually be there as well. It is up to you how you want to use you BR, but this way, you either have to be really lucky or you will be broke at some point.
As far as the boredom goes, I have had the same issue. At the moment, I am playing no more than 4 tables (I used to play up to 24, but my poker skills were no where near where they have to b to play this many tables). When I started taking my thought process more seriously, I now concentrate on all action at the tables. In every hand, I try to watch the action street for street and see if I can put the players, or my opponent, if I am in the hand, on ranges, and if it goes to showdown see how my estimates were. That in itself keeps me occupied. There is so much to think about in poker, and if you try to get used to having a thought process you follow, you can start to see where you were wrong, mark the hands for review later to see why you were wrong (or if the player just plays randomly, in which case you cannot assign specific ranges, get info from bet siting etc.)
You could just deposit 50$ and grind 2nl and try to play serious.
You said in your OP that it seems a waste of time. Financially, 2nl is a waste of time (in most countries) especially if you are playing to learn, and playing few tables to get your strategy, reads, using info such as bet sizing, position etc., better.
But, if you have a poker goal, this may be one of the steps you have to take to move on. Having a goal, and knowing that certain things must be mastered before moving on, AND... knowing it isnt easy, could help to alleviate the boredom.
Getting GOOD!! at anything wont be easy.
