Hello all.

I play pokerstars, Titan and Ladbrokes. I have been playing poker for about 8 months now and I`m just starting to look at the various deals.

Sometimes when I go on sites I just can`t work out what they are offering!!!

Can any of you guys give me some tips on how to get the best value out of the sites and specifically the 3 I am a member of.

When you have responded u might get asked some stupid questions but please stick with me!!!

Generally I would worry more about getting your ROI higher through simply playing poker. But I guess there are a couple of things which are worth looking for :-

1) Look out for Guaranteed tourneys which are undersubscribed with entrants. Back in the good old days when the PP Sunday was a 640 and not a 215 it was often very undersubscribed. They just wanted to be able to market the '1 million prize pool' tagline. Party usually had to fund 100-200K into this prize pool.

2) Look for 'money added' tournaments. If they are adding a few K, then this is only going to help your ROI stats.

3) If you consider yourself a very solid player then look for the longest blinds and biggest starting stacks. They dont even consider 10 minute blinds a speed tourney any more, which for me is just funny really.

4) If you are going to clear bonuses, make sure you read exactly what points get awarded for what. Clearing bonuses through playing cash tables is generally a mistake on many sites. Often statistically you are much better of clearing them through SNGs/MTTs.

5) Be a prop at a small site

6) Sign up for a rakeback agreement

etc, etc, etc.....but like I say at the beginning, I'd worry more simply about the poker.

A prop at a small site usually means that you open up a table - some sites give you extra credit towards your bonus (or even pay you an hourly rate) to do this.

If you're looking for overlays, bodog is a solid place for that - their 100K Sunday tourney usually has an overlay of $10-20K - last year they had a deal where if you deposited $100, they would give you a free ticket into this tournament...the first one I did last year had an overlay of over $50K!!!

As far as bonuses, be sure to read the T & Cs of a site - sites like Party, Empire, and Paradise Poker can be cleared very easily at very low limits, for example, while other sites like Absolute Poker almost force you to play 2/4 or higher to clear bonuses at a worthwhile pace. Give us a little more information (bankroll, what level cash games/tournaments you play), and the board members can tell you which bonuses are good to do

If I may add a little to that, the buyin is $100+$9, which you may find a bit steep, Ron, but there are a choice of qualifiers every day. I reckon the best value are the $10+$1 ones, which are daily at 14.00 Eastern (ie. 7.00pm UK time, which is quite convenient for UK players). 1 player in 10 gets a seat in the main event.

As I write this, today`s main event is only 30 minutes away, and there is currently an overlay of more than $70k  , but presumably it will fill up some more before it starts.

If you fancy something more modest, Titan has several $2000 Tourneys per day, $5 +50c buyin, and they often have an overlay (on a smaller scale, obviously).

Just to add some extra clarification to this....

A prop player is paid, usually an hourly wage, by the casino/card room/site, but they use their own money to play.

A shill is paid, again usually an houly wage, by the casino/card room/site AND they use house money to play the games.

Just FYI is all. Also, most locales have laws requiring that casinos, card rooms, etc must identify house players, IF ASKED.

JD makes a good point here, I am also working on improving my game. I switched from the bigger sites to a smaller less known. It does'nt have as high of money Tournaments, but it gives me chance to play and improve w/out pissing everyone off. Not as much at stake means less agitated players. They do offer freerolls with $100/$250 bonuses added. I have been able to improve by making the switch.

One more thing, there are fewer people who enter the Tournaments here. It is easier to place well.

zero rake

To me the best deal for playing poker online right now is the world poker exchange. They do not charge any rake because they have a very successful sports betting operation. You can't beat this they are also not going to prevent americans from plaing. The only problem with these guys are they don't have alot of people playing right now.
