Well written and covers the common stuff. Definitely a good read. But I'm a freak, and weird stuff tilts me.

Weird and not so weird stuff that sends me right up the wall:

White kids from the burbs who say "Holla" and throw gang signs.

Jerks who ruin my perfectly executed pot pumping when they suddenly realize they have the nut lo and just the nut lo and raise pot.

Old men in blue jeans up to their necks.

Old strippers who still have to show it, even though nobody wants to see it - i.e. old sluts.

Jerks who enter a PLO8 hand heads up with lo and stay in just so they can split and lose money on the chop to the rake. Just cuz they like sharing, and that's abnormal.

Morons who chase the nut lo with only two valid cards all the way to the river, while needing runner-runner to make their lo when I happen to have an obvious nut straight(I take it personally), then three hands later complain about a perceived bad beat that someone gives them, which wasn't even a bad beat! The irony abounds.

Nits who nearly suffer strokes every time someone raises pre-flop.

Lagtards who raise every hand and win(just for a short streak but it's still irritating).

The weird girl who rails for Gus Hansen, and constantly floods the chat box with things like "*sucking on an apple lolly, slurp-slurp*". Might as well type "*bare-ass naked and spread eagle, ooh ahh*", either way it's tacky and annoying. Thankfully I don't play while watching the higher levels. But I do know that if I did, that girl would tilt me.

People who start having cybersex at the table(has happened more than once and it's disgusting).

People who bypass the censor to type the n-word.

People who ask the overbetter "Is that a black value bet?"

Last but not least. Me! Yeah that's right. I tilt myself. I'm actually so annoying that I get under my own skin.

HAHAHAHAHA lol

Great article... I think number 8 is specially usefull.

Very good thread. Something useful for me to actually read, learn and apply. Only one thing I disagree with in certain case is not playing next hand when on tilt. When I get pocket Aces, Kings or any high pocket pairs during next hand after losing a pot, I shove all-in because I want to exploit table image and make people think I'm on tilt.

It involves noisy neighbors, a chainsaw, two gallons of gas, a weed eater rigged with steel cable, and a kitten. But, really, that's all I can say.
Haha! That's it - now you just have to create a thread with more details!!! LOL!
Going on tilt is my middle name...especially after a ridiculous bad beat
TY! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope you found something useful that helps you change your middle name from "tilt" to "you can't tilt me"!!!
Really good blog, Storm.

I, also, like the Poker Mindset by Ian Taylor and Matthew Hilger. It has a long, excellent chapter on tilt.

And I agree that people's expectations factor heavily into tilt. Once one realizes that poker is a long-run game of slight edges, it helps a lot. Or, at least, it helped me. It's not an easy money game.

Rigorous bankroll management also helps a ton with tilt. If losing your stack is not particularly damaging to your bankroll as a whole, it helps you get over that beat a lot easier.
TY! I do plan to get a copy and read through it. One thing I definitely do not want to do is accidently plagerize. I'm sure that's not a problem as published works have described their ideas & tips in ways that are much more refined then the way I have done it. I also look forward to new ideas that I can incorporate (in my own way of course) into future articles.
Absolutely on the br mgmt!

TY! And ty for your input! I welcome new ideas! However, I did already address the next hand getting ppr's and using table image to your advantage just under that tip :)

I printed your post and have it next to my computer. Good thing to read when I lose to morons who get rewarded. :)

It was disastrous! I watched her bust off the $2/5 nlhe table and buy back in 4 times! I've never personally witnessed something so horrific in live play before, and I hope I never do something that stupid again!

haha I really enjoyed that segment.
A lot of good advice to think about. I was recently on tilt and lost all my bankroll :(
but then again it did last about 2 weeks so maybe I'm just not as good as i thought :S
Either way I was already playing low limit S&G so my biggest mistake was probably not going to higher limits when I was playing well...
Regardless, Great post. thanks

5. You are not the unluckiest player ever. Ever feel like you are the unluckiest player in the world? Do you have the bad beat stories and cliff diving graphs to prove it? Do you run so bad you feel like there is a permanent dark cloud floating precariously over your head? Does any of the below sound familiar?

sounds like me,thanx for the help, its what i always say and also that im the worst!:(

Oh there's always someone worse than me. They're also a lot luckier than me. Part of me wants to trade my meager skills for lots of luck. Problem is you can build on skills and they never have to run out. Luck on the other hand...

Thank you everyone. I think most people know or at least have an idea about the things listed above. Sometimes it takes a person pointing out what you already know, but doing it in a new light. Saying the same thing but using an example that you can relate to in order to send the idea home.

My goal is just that. Tell people what they may already know, but in a new way that will help reinforce it. Perhaps even offer an idea they haven't thought of before. Always to offer some well grounded ideas/suggestions. After all that if someone is able to pick out several or even one tiny little part that helps them with their game, then I know I've helped.

To me, learning poker is like putting together a large jigsaw puzzle; there are hundreds or even thousands of pieces, some fit well together, some don't no matter how hard you may try to force the fit. In any event, there are pieces for everyone that will work and fit nicely together and as poker players we just have to find the right fit for us by gathering all the pieces from here and there and then putting them together. When all is said and done, my picture may look different than yours because what "fits" for me may not "fit" for you and of course, vice-versa. Take your pieces from here and there, wherever you can find them and put together your own picture that works for you. After you've put together your picture, don't forget to expand upon it from time to time, we never stop learning and we often find new pieces in areas we didn't think of.

Excellent article. I am frequently fighting with tilt especially in my cash games. I find many of your suggestions quite helpful when managing my bankroll for cash games.

man this is by far the hardest thing in poker to overcome besides getting rid of the monkeys who get you there....its real hard for any player to not get steamed when they bet big with their over pair and some freaking non odds calculating donk monkey calls you down with ace high to hit the river ........even the greatest players tilt and to master this is the key to success amongst other things but the ultimate thing to understand is that this game is made to make you crazy..and once you can understand it maybe the bad beatsw will just seem more expected and when exppected you can try to play in a way that you can presserve your stack in the event ofa bad beat to at least have a chance...ive seen people be the short stack in sngs then threee hands later be top two......lol but ironically it was probably because they were on tilt ...lol

New member here looking through articles on tilt control, which I'm ridiculously bad at. This is a really awesome post. I'm going to have to try running warm water on my hands too :)

Great tips man.

The worst kind of tilt is when you don't even know you're on tilt!

That's why I always like to take small breaks during every session. If I'm playing Live, I'll go to the bathroom, wash my face, check on my friends see how they're doing and get the blood flowing again.

These little things help return you to a proper mindset and get you back closer to your A game!
