it is definitely a sport you need concentration, physical preparation and skill all the components of an athlete therefore it is a sport and as in any sport the luck factor influences but that does not imply that it is not a sport

My personal opinion is that I think that poker is a gamble, but many believe that poker is a sport and now in Ukraine people and the administration have signed contracts and poker is now an official sport, but now let gamblers play sports!

I guess to some extend poker has characteristics of a sport, however in my opinion is not a sport as it does not include the physical aspect. It is a "game" like chess.
The contestants mental ability is far more important than their physical ability. In fact physical ability would be reasonably far down the rank of required skills in a game like poker. (Physical conditions can still give you an advantage over opponents in poker, however they would be more important in longer forms of the game like multi-day tournaments)
At the end of the day it comes down to your personal definition of sport. If you consider the above definition, the only word that doesn't make poker a sport is "physical".

What makes something a sport? By definition it isn't a sport. I would say poker is a game so I guess I would have to pick game of chance since those are the options.
Oxford Dictionary defines sport as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment"
Not much physical exertion in poker unfortunately. I would love it if I could get physically fit from just playing poker.

The point here is that performance is predictable. In a game of chance there would be no correlation in the winnings of players across successive periods, whereas there would be in a game of skill. So we know for sure that poker can’t be a game of pure chance.
