Back in the day back on the East Coast, all my friends and relatives played poker for nickel dime quarter stakes. It was always dealer's choice-- so we learned a lot of interesting games. Anybody remember Guts, or Acey Ducey?:D

I played Draw poker when I was young and when I started playing Texas Holdem when Moneymaker won the Main Event. That is also about the time I saw the movie Rounders. I been playing ever since.

Your advice in a few words or one sentence?

So there are always good rules of thumb for various activities, pursuits, etc. that are actually pearls of wisdom. Such as the well-known advice in the world of real estate investing: "The three things you always need to remember: location, location, and location."

I'm thinking you'all may have some "pearls" about playing poker gleaned from your experience, or listening to pros, or from reading, etc. that are memorable, important, and have improved your ability to play poker.

One thing I need to remind myself: always consider your position before the strength of your hand.

Your thoughts?:)

LOVE Acey doucey! we still play at the home games when we are waiting on a game to start. We play with some gamblers lol so the game starts $1 ante a person with the pot at like $5 and after some pay doubles and gambling with like a J and 5 they bet pot we get the pots up to like $400 it's def. a fun game to play while waiting on the no limit game to start.

My dad taught us the basic rules when I was a little kid, but I didn't start playing until I was in my mid 20's. I pretty much started playing for real money. My first game was a cash game and I did horrible. I was felted in about5 hands. My second game was a live MTT with about 60 people and I managed to finish 3rd by shear luck. Not variance, but luck. There were 3 different times I was down to my last big blind, got in the big blind and won to keep myself alive.

My cousin taught me when I was 12 lool

I already do not remember who taught me to play poker, or rather did not teach, but simply explained the rules of the game, poker is very difficult to teach, you need to be very much able to know, play, win

Started playing poker back on an Apple IIe with a bootlegged draw poker program when I was 8 years old and fell in love. Taught myself how to play the game.
When i was 20, I played my first poker game at a table with friends.
Then at 25, started playing online poker at Party Poker and Full Tilt... then when they shut down, over to Bovado/bodog/ignition until I just lost interest with their platform.
And my first time at a casino was when I was 29 playing NL Hold'em at the Detroit MGM Grand and walked away with $125.

Now I can't wait to get those first-time feels again when online poker goes legal on July 15.

I like math very much and I started to investigate all the numbers that surround the games of a casino. Then I discovered that the only ones you have a chance to win is in poker (because you play against other people) and in blackjack if you count the cards. And here I am :)

The manager of a club I worked at hosted a small homegame. It turned out it was the HG that all other hosts played at. Slowly started building up to multi-tabling online and playing afterhours homegames 3-4 nights a week.

This was probably 15-17 years ago.

Got my first taste playing nickel, dime, quarter with my dad and his friends. Limit games with wild cards and lots of lo ball.

Started playing NL holdem online (Moneymaker effect) in 2004. Had just bought a powerbook and played on Pokerroom.com. Was a different world back then. Example: back then you could join a cash game with just enough to make a single bet.

I will never forget sticking a literal quarter (25 cents) on a cash table and was all in and quintupled up. Jumped on a dollar sit n go table and won it. Turned 25 cents into 700 dollars in one evening. Then jumped on the $100 sng turbos and was broke by sunrise.

It was probably year ago. My friend came to me and ask some money, I was surprised when he said that he was going to play poker. And I ask him to take me too to the game. 5 ten minutes he didn't want to take me, but after 40 minutes we were playing at one table))
Of course on that day I lost all my money, as I didn't know all the rules)

The beginning in poker.

was wondering how to make money at home on the internet, and attend a talk from a former sports reporter, who said that because of the drop in sales of printed newspapers, it was very difficult to follow in this career, he said he started studying and playing poker , and that for a while he got break even and showed his chart, and decided to join a poker team, AkkariTeam, and his chart had a jump.
I thought, I'm going to start playing, it should not be a difficult game, I'm studying a lot, training hard, it's a very complex game.
I started playing poker with the goal of becoming a great player and making a profit with poker.
