Beyond the WSOP: Wynn Summer Classic Schedule Expands

The Wynn Summer Classic returns on May 31 with a full slate of events that includes seven tournaments with guaranteed prize pools of seven figures.

The festival runs from May 31 to July 20 with close to 30 events on the schedule. The low number is due to the amount of big buy-in and multiday tournaments, of which the WSC schedule is packed. Some of the bigger events include the $2,200 Mystery Bounty (June 13-17) with a guaranteed $2.5 million prize pool, a $1,600 No-Limit Hold’em tournament (June 28-July 1) guaranteeing $2 million, and the $3,500 No-Limit Hold’em Championship (June 24-28) guaranteeing $3.5 million.

The biggest buy-in tournament on the slate is a $5,200 Progressive Bounty on June 27.

The WSC also features a variety of poker disciplines, despite the low total number of events. These tournaments include a $1,100 HORSE (June 10-11), Omaha Hi-Lo (June 12-13), $3,000 Pot-Limit Omaha (June 19-20), $550 PLO (June 23), and $3,000 8-Game Mix (July 1-2).

Ryan Beauregard, executive director of poker operations for Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, told CardsChat that this year’s schedule bumped the guarantees up to $16 million overall compared to $13 million in 2021. The nine multiflight events also represent an increase. He pointed out the $500 buy-in casino industry event at the end of the schedule, a popular tournament the World Series of Poker holds at the front of its festival.

“Also, while it’s technically not new anymore, watching players draw for $100,000 and $250,000 envelopes in the Mystery Bounties never gets old,” Beauregard said.

Overall, the WSC aims for a higher-bankrolled crowd, with eight events featuring buy-ins in the three figures and the rest requiring $1,000 or more to enter. The schedule includes many satellites that offer players the opportunity to win their entry to the bigger events at a lower cost.

Beauregard notes that there’s plenty of tournament competition in Las Vegas in the summer, and believes the WSC offers a strong choice for players.

“The best thing about this time of year is that players have endless options, and the freedom to choose based on what they value most,” Beauregard said. “We have a very good variety of events and price points that are thoughtfully scheduled, coupled with a comfortable tournament area and a great team.”
