After securing $3 million in funding back in 2018, the operator has been gradually upping its presence in the industry.

Initially focusing on retention through a series of offers, including satellites for the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP), 9Stacks is now focusing acquisitions.

As part of its latest player recruitment drive, the Indian online poker site has released a rap video. Featuring Dependent artists, the 2.58-minute musical composition (see video above) is designed to give novices an insight into poker’s finer points.

Although the lyrics are in Hindi, Hustle Hai is prefaced with the tagline: “things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”

Poker and music have had an interesting relationship over the years. During online poker’s high point, SrslySirius became a cult icon thanks to parody song such as Without Me (see video above).

Also getting in on the act was Prahlad Friedman. While his efforts may have been slightly more serious than SrslySirius (see video above), his term “practice avoidance” became fodder for forum posters across the community.

Indian Online Poker Continues to Evolve

With themed songs always popular, 9Stacks’ latest effort could hit the right note with Indian online poker players. If nothing else, the PR move is a testament to the evolution of the industry.

As India’s poker scene has grown, so too have the opportunities for operators and players. In February 2018, 9Stacks broke the mold by sponsoring a team of female players.

Since then, PokerBaazi has hosted the country’s largest online MTT while the Match Indian Poker League has partnered with MTV.

Despite being ring-fenced, traffic levels are starting to improve for the top operators. Market leader Adda52 currently has a 24-hour cash game peak of 538 while PokerStars is at 183, according to PokerScout.

While there is still a way to go until Indian online poker reaches its full potential, novel marketing ideas will certainly help. Indeed, even if the lyrics may be foreign to many, the beat should make you want to Hustle Hai.
