Any comments on any opportunities I missed here between hand 1 and hand 19. Late stages of a $2.20 MTT. 4971 runners, ITM at 990, approx 120 left when Hand 1 was being played. Final table payout starts at $69 and 1st=$1242, 117=$12.93, 90=$13.92, 72=$14.92, 54=$15.91

Hand #3 is possibly worth a shove, depending on how you read the raiser`s range. It would be very chancy, though, with bigger stacks still to act behind.

The error, imo, is hand #14. You must shove with any two cards in this position. This is your last hand before the blinds go through you again and reduce you to fewer than 5x BB and an M of less than 3. Once that happens, you no longer have any fold equity and are dead money. Close your eyes, cross your fingers, and shove.

1 - yup

2 - yup

3 - strong case for shoving dependant on his perceived range, but fold ok

4 - at thid point I could be persuaded to shove here

5 - yup

6 - yup

7 - yup

8 - yup

9 - yup

10 - yup

11 - yup (though would shove if really bored :))

12 - yup

13 - yup

14 - yup

15 - I might call here and get it in with a 9 or 4 or anything remotely drawy. Shoving or folding are also fine.

16 - yup

17 - My range for shoving is huge here. T6o is probably not in it though you are so short any two cards with any equity is great.

18 - wow horrid cards :) fold

19 - yup bad luck.

Sometimes there is little you can do but look for a spot to get it in.

Question is really, did you do everything you can to avoid being shortstack in the first place?

Interesting and I don't disagree.

I guess my gamble is that I get a hand that's got marginally more equity in the BB next hand (he didn't as it happens).

I'm sure the difference in equity is slim to none but I'd just about justify a fold to myself with T6 here. Anything marginally better and it's arrin though.

I think all hands played right except hand 4 i think it was where u had Q7s. Not a good hand by any means but with so much already in the pot in relation to ur stack, i think this justifies a shove and even if u get called u probably have 2 live suited cards and probably wont be that big of an underdog and might even be 50/50 if a small pair calls u.

Maybe I try a little too hard to build a stack when I get REAL short like your situation here and gamble when maybe I shouldnt, but I am shoving hands 4, 11, 12, and 17 regardless of my cards and hoping for a 60/40 if called because my fold equity is quickly going out the window. Also, I agree with rex on hand 15 for a stop and go. You NEED to get a stack back up to get you to where the money counts. Gamboool.

Thanks Rex. Got short stacked a few hands before these when TT<99 for 75% of my stack.

Then look for a place to stack and if it goes wrong chalk it off to experience and fire up the next one :)

Either way is viable, Rex, but my experience is that the all-in from UTG move is seldom called, because such a move is generally taken to mean "monster hand". Not too many opponents think far enough beyond the obvious to look at blind level and stack size and realise that it makes sense to do that with ATC in that situation.

Therefore, the usual outcome is that you pick up the blinds and antes. Then, if the hand you pick up in the BB is strong enough, you can still shove from the BB but, if not, you can now survive another round.

I tend to go the other way with stacks of that size and think that the hand is likely understrength because it's utg and the blinds are next.

Though with respect to $2 MTTs I may be overestimating the fields' attention to these things.

I`d suggest you`re overestimating at any level under $50 MTTs, m8. :)

That`s the problem with Level 2 thinking, imo. It`s natural to assume that the opponent thinks as you do. In reality, most of the players out there don`t read books, don`t post in CC HA threads, and learned to play poker from watching TV.

I agree with that to a huuuuge extent and certainly think that most players have zero clue as to considering ranges in most cases. And having never played a $2 MTT I can't speak of them.

However I would suggest that of all the range affecting things to pick up on, utg shoves with shortstacks are the most obvious and so possibly (and I concede possibly) it affects the calling range of the field slightly.

Of course no-one ever went broke underestimtating the average skill level of an MTT field :)

Good thread topic Jilly. Its nice to compare shoving ranges of diff types of MTT players on here and the reasons behind them. I wouldnt mind a few more threads of the same format...

I might be getting better. I covered up your action and called every one. (wavered a bit on 4)

(admittedly not too difficult due to the card dreadedness)

ETA: And I agree with Johnny. Nice idea to have a large group of consecutive hands to study the dynamic of more than just a single hand.
