Justin Buchanan

If you asked Justin to describe his relationship with poker, he would without hesitation refer to it as "love-hate." He discovered CardsChat in early 2014 and credits major improvement in his poker game directly to the site. He may not have a big bankroll yet, but he sure has lots of spunk. Other qualities that make him dangerous at the tables are determination, analytical skill, and aggression--now if only he could be more patient and not so prone to getting heated. Activities other than poker that he enjoys include writing, reading, video games, using large words, and frequenting a multitude of websites. Dislikes include cold weather, cold cards, and hot drinks. His favorite starting hand is pocket 9s.

Aces Full of It: The Problem of Postflop

Justin Buchanan - August 28th, 2016

A while back, my esteemed colleague Todd McGee wrote an excellent piece on methods of gathering information during preflop play. Well, I simply couldn’t resist putting my two cents in on the poker intelligence from. Since he already covered preflop info gathering, I’ll be going into what information to look for in postflop play. Gathering […]

Aces Full of It: PokerTube.com Conclusion

Justin Buchanan - August 5th, 2016

Last time, I covered most of the rest of PokerTube’s tab categories. Today, we’ll wrap things up. Fair warning, I might get a little brief in places. Documentaries They seem to be using the term “documentary” a bit loosely here, but make no mistake: that’s a good thing.  There’s clips, full episodes, clips that are […]

Aces Full of It: PokerTube.com, Part Tres

Justin Buchanan - July 29th, 2016

Last time, I covered a few more of PokerTube’s categories and indicated the beginnings of an opinion shift. Today, both of those trends are probably going to continue (seeing as how I’m writing these particular words before actually checking out what I intend to fully). Poker Hands Me being wrong is appearing at this point to […]

Today I’ll continue to cover more types of poker videos and hopefully share some coalescing thoughts on my overall opinion of the site so far. Poker Interviews Well, I’ll say […]

Aces Full of It: PokerTube Tour Part 1

Justin Buchanan - July 14th, 2016

PokerTube Tour Part 1 I’ve decided to do something a little different. For quite a while now, I’ve been meaning to check out the website PokerTube, basically a collection of poker videos of many descriptions. I’m going to be doing this thoroughly, so this will be a multi-parter. And not just a two-parter, either!  So […]

Aces Full of It: Outside Looking In

Aces Full of It: Outside Looking In

Justin Buchanan - June 23rd, 2016

Sometimes, I wonder why I hardly even bother to try playing in online cash games. Play them right, and they’re such a reliable profit, and it hardly even matters what level of stakes you’re in!  The same long run that I deride constantly as a tournament player really is some kind of Promised Land in […]

Aces Full of It: The Problem of Pre-flop

Aces Full of It: The Problem of Pre-flop

Justin Buchanan - May 26th, 2016

This one’s going to be colored by my experience in micro stakes MTT events even more so than usual, just to get it out there. You see, in that poker niche, there is something of a phenomena that, well, doesn’t make the most sense to me.  Namely, an acute difference of behavior of the usual […]

Aces Full of It: Mastering the Luck

Aces Full of It: Mastering the Luck

Justin Buchanan - May 10th, 2016

Every so often, I see a certain phrase related to poker bandied about on social media, usually as a meme of some kind, with images of varying applicability. That phrase is: “Poker is a combination of luck and skill. People think mastering the skill part is hard, but they’re wrong. The trick to poker is […]
