a long time ago i introduced a friend to online poker and then registered him for a freeroll..on full tilt...and he won.
his first ever mtt...it was hard to believe. he just went allin what felt like every 3rd hand...he was instant better player than i will ever be.

Congrats to the winner but I would highly doubt that it was his 8th MTT ever, I am sure he is like most of the rest of us and has different sites he plays on. Although, I would never put it past Jokerstars to make sure that a newbie came in and scored like that so they could promote it all over the world and get more players to come test their luck. Let the conspiracy theories flow from there. LOL.

New account is not the same as "newbie", since there are many places, where people can play poker. Just to give one example, this could be someone living in the US, who started playing poker in 2013, when PokerStars had left the US market. So instead they were playing on ACR and in psysical casinos. But now they have moved to canada, and this allowed them to open an account on PokerStars and play Sunday Million, which they had always wanted to do.

Because it will very very very hard for a complete newcomer to win something like the sunday million.

Yes it is possible that a not very good or even a bad player can win a big tournament but if u are completely clueless (!) then u will probably not win anything online in that buy-in range that lasts that long.

So what he means is that the guy already had some kind of experience from either live play, other sites, videopoker, 30 days beginner course here or whatever else.

During the Sunday Million Twitch stream I actually mentioned it to Nick & then after the game ended they made comments suggesting that the guy had actually played the entire final table very well... that was until the HeadsUp play (where they played it a bit funky & perhaps showed a lack of experience there BUT many MTT players will be inexperienced at short-handed play & especially HU play).

Maybe 'Te' saw the game play out on Youtube? or Twitch.
