Why is Online Poker so popular in Brazil and Ukraine?

Brazilians, I know that we are the majority in PS, Ukrainians, I don't know, but every day that passes the number of Brazilians in online poker increases and I hope that the Ukrainians increase too because the more players there are, the bigger the prizes.

Online poker provides financial opportunities to people in those countries + there are much more Brazilians and Ukrainians than let's say Balkan nationalities who has similar economics and prices etc.

But than again, there are Kazakhstan that has only like 2 times less popultion than Ukraine and more or less similar economics, but i don't see them much. Probably they play on PokerOK or russian rooms?

Why some countries play more while other less is a very complicated question after all. People, unironically, can make scientific studies on it.

A lot of russians play via Ukrainian VPN on pokerstars, for example. And many Ukrainians were out of work during the war, as many business companies simply closed down. And, given that the borders are closed, poker may be the last hope for financial well-being for many Ukrainians.

I mean, brazil's population is 5 times larger than argentina's. Besides, Argentina's economy is a mess (annual inflation rate of 161%) no wonder we don't see many players from Argentina

Poker boom in Brazil it's a recent thing, 5 years to now... obv have a lot a poor people, more than 200 million living here. Sorry to say that, but the economy in your country it's a dream for some brazilians.. i go to argentina last year, and i can tell you with a small money from Brazil, i get the top services in your country.. with the same money in Brazil, the same things probably cost 3,4x more

As others have said, it likely has a lot to do with the fact, that both are low-mid income countries, where even a small income from online poker is valuable to a lot of players. And this is why, we see so many micro and low stakes grinders from these and similar countries. Several brasilian players have also made it to the top though. brasil usually top the country list for wins in big events like the PokerStars WCOOP and SCOOP, and there are almost always brasilians at the Sunday Million final table.

I think this is due to the financial situation in these countries, the lack of opportunity to earn a normal living forces people to look for ways to earn money. Poker is one of them, but it’s impossible to just play poker and not love it. In Ukraine, poker is officially recognized as a sport and the poker community is constantly growing

There were by far more Russians playing on pokerstars than any other country before they got banned. Some of them might have found a way to play under another flag. Before black Friday were there more Americans playing on pokerstars than any other country? I did not play on pokerstars at that time.
