I think your pre-flop plan involves more than just your starting hand. Other things to consider are:-
1. Your opponents
2. Your position
3. The time in the tournament ~ if it is one? (Start of tourney, on the bubble etc.?) This would be different again in a cash game.
This is just a few things, trust me there are plenty more.
If I were you I would post some examples of hands you have played and you will get alot of excellent feedback, then go on from there.
Welcome to the forum, use the search feature, have a look around, you'll be surprised what you find and gl in the future.......
If you think and saw your opponent opening or raising loose earlier you can push allin if no one else intend to enter the pot. Its about your position and your opponent's...
you have to take in quite a few factors before deciding what hand you play in a certain position but if your just a learner i advise to play real tight and play premium hands untill you get a better feel of the game..
Also there is alot of helpful threads you can check out on this forum which can also help you out so much
It all depends on how other players are playing, who behind you and what has happened before you. If someone is bullying you then I love to shove after their raise.
The are very few universal answers in poker - so this what you are asking depends a lot of your image, your opponents image, the depth of your stack etc.
Ofcourse it is ok to fold AK preflop sometimes - happened a lot to me, especially in the deep cash games - you are small amount of times ahead, usually you are flipping or a big underdog (AA/KK)
i dont think folding ak preflop is a dumb move specially if more than 1 player shove all in preflop before you act. your ace king will lose lot of value because im many cases one or both players might have a high pair decreasing your odds of winning the hand. also in early stages specially on deep stack tournaments you might consider folding ak preflop because you still have lot of time to find a better spot to risk your entire chipstack and there is lot of postflop play to increase your stack, so you might consider folding preflop hands like ak or aq and go all in with aces, kings or maybe qq. in turbo tournament i think shoving with ak is the right choice becuase blinds increase quickly and you need to grow your stack as soon as possible before blinds and antes eat your stack.
