I still have to wonder exactly what it was that the Vietnamese guy said. I'm not a badass or anything like that. But there are some things that I just won't tolerate. I guess that's just the way I grew up. I was taught to keep my mouth shut and handle my business, not to mess with anyone, but not to let anyone mess with me, and not to let anyone disrespect me or my family.

The point is that if someone crosses the line I am the type of person that will probably come around the table and hit them in the mouth. To me someone showing a bluff doesn't come anywhere near crossing that line. In fact the thought of it is laughable. Someone screaming and shouting in an excessive celebration might be irritating, but it still wouldn't cross that line. However if the Vietnamese guy were to have yelled out the wrong words during the course of his celebration, then that might explain what upset the other guy enough to cause him to strike out. I know we've all played against obnoxious players (usually online) who can say some uncalled for shit when they win, and even worse things when they lose (you know, the kind of stuff that might be considered insulting). Maybe this was one of those guys that just forgot he was in the real world and not safely behind his computer, where he couldn't be reached.

I'm just sure that there had to be more to it than he showed me a bluff and then celebrated. To most people on this forum, the idea of punching someone in nose for executing a successful bluff, showing it and then celebrating seems absolutely ridiculous. In fact it seems so ridiculous to me that I can't believe that there wasn't more to it than that. It's not at all hard for me to imagine, given some of the things I've seen said and done at poker tables that I'm surprised didn't result in someone being punched in the nose.

This seems to be a touchy subject for some and on the other hand seems to be perfectly ok. I have never personally been asked 'If I fold , will you show?' I do agree with not showing your bluff at all. People can really catch on to your play when you do show a successful bluff. Which can lead to losing portions of your stack which puts you in a position where you have to adjust and cant take advantage of certain situations because your stack has shrunk. On the other hand I have been against opponents, one in particular, who are rude and say some really stupid things, in which certain hands where I would make plays and be bluffing when he then would fold, I showed my bluff. Im not too sure if I was being rude by do this to him, but he was saying rude things about everyone at the table. The others at the table were laughing along with it and fueling the fire Im sure, and he would keep going with rude talk and every now and then I was able to bluff him and showed it three times. Please don't forget, I do not normally show my bluffs, but i feel this guy deserved it.

I personally never show bluffs, but If I have been bluffing a lot and I get a great hand with an awesome well played through hand, then I will show it for sure just for table image.

Also I would imagine people show bluffs to try and put others on tilt.

i dont believe the part of the punch being thrown and the casino doing nothing except ASK if the police should be called.
Security would have appeared within minutes and the puncher immediately removed from the table. There is no reason for physical violence for being shown a bluff.
The closest i ever saw something happen was when one player had KK and made a huge raise preflop when there were 4 limpers in the pot.Three folded but the player on the button called.Flop was A29 and the KK bet followed by an allin from the button.KK thought for a while and said"you got an Ace havent you?".The allin player said "yes".KK folded and 27 showed the bluff.
I thought KK was going to punch 27 but it never happened.
I believe if you are willing to take someones money you should be willing to give them your money as well...or dont play !

To OP, I have apprehensions about your story. Did the Vietnamese guy really have a 72o?! Of all the cards he could have, he ended up with the worst starting hand possible just to make this story somewhat compelling. But I'm not surprise about the punching part, I've seen worse. If you have played enough live, you can see a lot of things unimaginable. Regardless, I will still give you the benefit of the doubt.

Both of the characters mentioned in your post erred. No doubt about it. The Vietnamese acting way beyond normal and being a jackass while the other being a thug and a sore loser. Which is worse? I have to say both! The other guy will not punch the Vietnamese guy if he wasn't provoked. Or if the Vietnamese guy didn't cross the line. And you can never blame him if he doesn't have the self restraint a normal human being have. But I am not condoning what he did. In fact, he should have been arrested. What if he broke the Vietnamese jaw, or his nose, or worse put him into a coma.

To my fellow CC'ers, don't be like these 2 guys, because the end result could be worse!

I love showing a nicely played bluff just to get under my opponents skin, this is a tool of poker that should be used sparingly.

bluffing and how I play

usually when I play online poker, I often see how the other players blahut, they raise pre-flop , then bet continued on the flop, and the turn is doing very weak check, I usually bet 1/3 of the pot,and it's basically fold or raise, 2 bet but I put all in and there usually is almost always fold what you think about this?

I think people show bluffs to tilt other players, and from what i've seen, it works.
I'd rather show someone that calls me down during their chase before finally folding to my all in at turn to let them know that I had them all the way and that I don't bluff. To me this makes them think twice before getting into a hand with me again.

Showing a bluff can help you in future hands as your opponent seeing he was bluffed he can start tilting and playing like true fish. Showing a bluff to players like let`s say Phil Hellmuth(well known) is a good idea if you think that can help you to win. Players who cant stay still cant hold 1st place for long time.

Very seldom do I show my cards, actually I never show both, never on a bluff. I show one sometimes to show I wasn't bluffing. No particular reason lol, take care y'all

I dont mind if someone shows a bluff. If your allowed to do it(which you are),then it is your choice whether you want to show it or not.

Showing a bluff is a great strategical advantage you can give yourself if using correctly! If you show a good player you just bluffed him your not going to be doing that much because they will shake it off quick and get back to the game! Unlike if you show it to a bad player they will seriously think too much about it and try to play against it! Bad players generally dont think too much about poker overall seeing is how they are "bad" players, but sometimes when they start thinking poker they will think they have just picked up an advantage on you! Seriously I do it a lot against bad players and its just a matter of time before they start calling you when you have the nuts.. NEVER FAILS!

Shoving off bluffs and rubbing them on other players faces is very poor Poker etiquette. Although getting punched in the face like that might be a little too much.

As for showing off bluffs, well the only reason you would do that is to gain an advantage over your opponent, puting him on tilt and paying you off. Against a solid opponent, I don't think it's that smart. He might be able to pick up your patterns and beat you to it. Don't be a show off and keep your bluffs to yourself.

Showing a bluff is nothing important unless you are the one who folded and want to know what he had. As the bluffer, this benefits you especially when the pot is big because hd will be coming after you every hand. So sit back with the correcy cards and say goodnight after a sick bluff and doubling up = ) - no one likes to be bluffed on.. thats the point of the show.

Its depend ,i think sometimes bluff really do work, but not all the time.IMO when you trying bluff try not to over do it cause if the other dude raise against you then you will be in the world of trouble. But then again bluffing sometimes work and sometimes not.Its depend on who you are trying to bluff, fish or shark or the donk queen.
