perhaps not at the same time as playing as it may interfere with judgement especially for tourneys I think. As long as it is not drinking in excess and perhaps in places where it is not likely to interfere with other activities including playing it should be OK.

I play PLO and I play better while drinking. I don’t do it all the time, but yes I drink. Especially on the weekends when all the fish are out and think because I’m holding a Jameson neat in my hand that I’m drunk and they call everything. Then they proceed to say I’m lucky with 10 max buy ins in chips in front of me. To each their own tho.

A little buzz is nice when playing. Have a bottle of water in between drinks and it can have a very relaxing and calming effect while staying sharp.

Alcohol relaxes you greatly and you will no longer feel the fear that should be present in the game, so alcohol and poker are not 100% compatible.

Doesn't improve my game. Would rather drink and do other things than poker.

Alcohol is no good if you want to win. But if you want to have fun, especially in a live setting, gamble it up and be social, it's great!

Idk man. It depends on how you handle your liquor. Of course getting tipsy or out of it is ALWAYs going to fk up your game.

However, I think there's a small window where you can enjoy a beer or two and still play strong poker. Maybe even do better than otherwise, since the best mental frame for poker is a Zen-like relaxed but aware/focused frame.

For full details, see "The Tao of Poker", great book!

I know a player who always buys rounds for the whole table.

But, he has the waitress bring him zero alcohol beer so he can keep a clear head.

Good luck !

A little beer I can think sometimes, it's not so scary, beer is quickly eliminated from the body.

During a long tournament online I sometimes drank 1-2 beers, thanks to which I was more relaxed and patient. When I played live poker I drank 1-3 beers, low entry fee, lots of fun, relaxation time :) because poker is not only a grind for money but also a lot of fun and pleasure. "Make poker fun again"

I do not drink alcohol at all. Especially during the game, in my opinion, alcohol will be superfluous.

If you're playing to have a good time and would rather lose more/ win less than you would while sober but enjoy a drink or two then it's fine.

In the casino playing cash games I like to have a beer if I feel like doing so, but I never get drunk or anything crazy like some people do.

Yeah I agree if you played poker just for fun you can drink beer, but if you play poker for a living its not advisable to drink beer. imagine your playing poker without drinking beer and you are still loss how more if you are in influence of alcohol. Do I make sense?

You can watch the poker stream. You need to play sober.

Sometimes I find one drink can help loosen me up a little and that can be a good thing for my poker. But if I'm in a tourney that lasts a long time I won't have it at the start because it can make me tired.

my opinion is that poker should be without alcohol. Alcohol pulls you into unjustified risks.

While playing for fun, no worries, coffee, beer, joint, as long as most of it is poker.

Of course not, since poker needs a lot of concentration and strategy, it is not a simple game and if there is money in between, it is even worse.
Now if it's just for fun at home.
I agree. If you're playing for a living you shouldn't drink. But if it's just for fun......
