| How did ferguson make 10k what games did he play? I dont get how he actually did it though. From what I read it took him 9 months to get 100$ which he done by playing in a tourney. then about a year later he went to 10k but how in that space of time with 10 hours a week? From what ive read he was playing low stakes cash games most of the time and making a very very slow steady profit which the full tilt graphs show but not enough to make 10k in a year. Then towards the end it jumps up twice massively to go over the 10k mark. I read that he placed in like 3 tourneys that night one being a ftops one. how did he get into that?was it a satellite? Did he really just do it by free rolling into tourneys by playing in cash games within his roll? Then cashing out big? |

I think the hardest part of becoming a successful poker player is managing your bankroll properly. Anyone can learn how to play poker, but not everyone has the self discipline to play within their limits... Quote:

| I remember he started with freerolls. But the freerolls paid top 27 players and there were only 900 entries. The freerolls got alot bigger and odds are much greater to cash. Another thing about this challenge is was he was a pro-player before he started. It's important to practice good BRM but until your a winning player it's more like a budget rather than a BR. |

| Pretty sure his breakthrough came when he won 'The Ferguson'. I checked his Tourney stats. & noticed he played a $500buyin FTOPS, prior to having his $10k (actually nearer to the start of the challenge) so am guessing he excluded that game from the challenge? |

| He didn't cheat. He followed all the guidelines that he sets for bankroll management. It's totally possible. Then again it's totally possible to bust out in the process (even Ferguson did). But what made it really simple for Ferguson, is Full Tilt had to have paid him to do this challenge. Why else would he waste his time, when he could be playing real stakes? |

Check out his tournament stats. - - he played a $500buyin (Ftops) shortly after he started the challenge. Not saying he 'cheated'... guessing he excluded it from the challenge. |

| Equally amazing, but somehow getting much less press, is the fact that he continued the challenge and, over the course of 3 years or so, achieved $100,000. http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/chris-ferguson-challenge Look at that ugly downswing from $40k back to around $10k or so... I'd sure like to get the story on that. Good on him for overcoming it though! |

How does one hit a 30k downswing like that following his strict BRM rules? That's 75% of his bankroll. Is it really possible to encounter that much variance? Or is it really possible that Ferguson went off his BRM plan, went on tilt and donked it off? Neither of the two scenarios seem that plausible, but if I had to choose one of the two to believe it would be that even with strict BRM losing 75% of your bankroll is possible. Which is simply terrifying to me. |
