Harrington on Online Cash Games - 6-Max NLHE I was just wondering if anyone else has picked this book up yet as I haven't seen anyone posting on it. I had mine on preorder, so I received it about 3 weeks ago, although I haven't made it through much of it as I've been busy with other things and didn't have much time to read yet. I was going to set this thread up as a discussion for anyone that is reading through to talk about anything interesting in there since it's a new book and it's been added to the praised Harrington series. It looks like a book that would be really useful to a lot of micro through medium stakes players trying to get into 6-max games. There is even an entire chapter dedicated to micro games and another for low limit games, so I think a lot of the newer members here might be able to get a lot of use out of the book.

Normally... authorities and/or professionals who share their info via books or classes have a world of first hand knowledge on whatever subject they are addressing. Anyone have any idea how many hours or hands Harrington has played online that ... "would be really useful to a lot of micro through medium stakes players trying to get into 6-max games". ???

nick, I wasn't implying that Harrington plays any at those limits, rather that it has a lot of information that could help a player at those limits. All you have to do is watch a micro table for 20 minutes to see what types of ranges people are playing and you can give some advice as how to beat a game like that. Granted I'm not talking from experience since I am no where near that level, but I do believe that there are a lot of pros that could dissect even a micro game and find ways to beat it. Does that make more sense?

Just noting my opinion about people, poker book writers especially in this case, that they may or may not have that certain 'expertise' to back up their words. I don't recall (but I could be way off base) that Harrington ever does much if anything online. Sure seems like a good place to pick up some book selling bucks from a market that will buy anything with a name on it.

re: Harrington on Online Cash Games - 6-Max NLHE poker To be honest, I thought the same thing when I saw it. The first thing I thought was, "What site is he represented by or representing" and I couldn't think of it, and I still haven't found out. The only thing I could imagine, if he did any playing at those levels, would be that he played off of an unknown usernames so that he could get unbiased play. I also agree with that people will do anything to sell a book. What I'll do from time to time as I'm reading through is maybe point some things out here and there that might seem a bit off. Right now I am about 15 pages away from when it starts talking about HUDs, so I'm kind of interested to see what all it has to say about that. I'm reading it from the beginning, even though the entire first part/chapter is geared more towards the early beginner, just because I'm wanting to see if there is anything interesting he has to say about stuff, but it's mainly going over simplicities as pot odds and EV plays.

re: Harrington on Online Cash Games - 6-Max NLHE poker I ordered it on amazon and it arrives today. I am writing 2 books right now myself, so I bought this purely for research purposes, but when I finish it I will try and remember to do a short review in this thread. If I were to guess, I think this will be a pretty decent book.

Any hints on what the books are going to be focused on? I knew that you were working on the sequel to Treat Poker as a Business, but didn't know you were working on another one as well. |

I have only gotten about half way through because I've been moving so that has slowed things down a bit. I just started the micro stakes section. So far what I have liked the most out of it was actually the note taking section. I was doing a similar system to his, but not with all of the abbreviations he uses, which definitely will speed things up when trying to take fast notes.

^ just wanted to echo this... i was not real impressed with his regular cash game books... they weren't bad but they really didn't say anything that a few others books say better and with more detail. I'll probably still read this eventually though. |

re: Harrington on Online Cash Games - 6-Max NLHE poker He does play online. I've heard both and Bill Robertie, his partner and co-author, interviewed about his online play. According to them, they both played quite a bit online, with Robertie playing the micro stakes while Harrington played the higher stakes, as research for the book. This was a couple years ago, right after the first cash books were released and they decided they wanted to put out an online 6max book. So they probably didn't play much online before the first Cash series, but it sounded like by the time I heard the interviews that they had been playing online pretty heavily since. Given that was 2 years ago, I expect they played enough that Harrington could probably get across some useful adjustments in strategy. I'd pick it up if I played 6max, but I don't.

I have to say that I can't imagine that this book, by Dan Harrington on *online 6-max cash game poker* is going to be any good at all. Think about Harrington. Does he reek of 6-max prowess ... ONLINE!? Frankly, I'd just hold out for Dusty's book and watch videos and take notes at your favorite poker training site. (PS - good to pop in at CC and say hi)

Just started the micro stakes section and so far, it's actually a lot better than I thought it would be. I'm liking this book a lot so far. More than likely not going to be very useful to anyone who is playing above low stakes, but then again, many of those players won't be needing to read a book like this anyhow.

re: Harrington on Online Cash Games - 6-Max NLHE poker A rookie question. Dont crucify me right away. Ahem....exactly....why would a poker pro share his golden knowledge and winning poker strategies w the world? I mean...do ppl ever THINK about things or do they just take em as they come? Or am i being too philosophical and over-thinkin things? I'm a winning poker player for Christ's sake. I've made a killing utilizing my psychology skills and HS math. I'm telling u how to make a mill w/o breaking ur back. WHY???? Am i just a generous person or am i making sure me and my peers have enough fish to feast on?

Many people have told me these were the better books to get on cash game and It would really help, I do alright in cash games but I really would like to move up to a little higher money levels as right now Im .05/.10 level and I aint crushing them but I am able to profit sometimes and even out a lot and when Im feeling that poker rush, I end up losing but I gotta figure out how much I feel comfy with losing as I havent started BR stuff yet as I feel Im paying for an education

Ok I see i wasnt specific enough. Lets go into the details a bit. Every poker player who wrote a book is a millionaire. Now...as a self made millionaire ur gonna be smart enough to invest in lets sayyyyy....an apartment complex for eg. Google stocks. Or like Doyle even better, ur own online poker site. So w that in mind Harrington is no different. Any of those business ventures r more profitable than a book, long term. I truly believe that those book profits r not the motivation. It doesnt make sense. It cant be. Just some food for thought....
