FLHE for the next while
Well once again I apologize to all (or any, rather) of my readers for not updating my half of the blog for so long. Things in my personal life have been all over the place, and I haven’t had much to write about up until recently. Me and my would-be roommate ended up having a lot more trouble finding jobs than we’d originally thought, and obviously haven’t gotten an apartment yet with no income to pay the bills. We ended up getting some help at a youth employment center, and can hopefully have an apartment and a place by January, if not sooner. On top of all this, I ended up missing some classes in my college course and have been viciously trying to catch up with what I missed.
Anyways, on to the good stuff.
With the occasional help of my blogging counterpart, Mr. Paulsson, I’ve decided to play fixed limit rings for a while to improve my game. FLHE will give me a lot more postflop experience as well as patience and discipline, and I think it can only help my NL game. I’m actually finding it a lot more fun and profitable than I’d originally thought it would be, albeit only after about 2500 hands so far. I may actually end up using FLHE rings as my primary or secondary poker ‘moneymaker’.
Through the good luck, the bad, the good play and the bad (I’ve still got quite a few of rough edges to work on), I’ve managed to scrape out a ~7.7BB/100hands winrate while two-tabling 6-max .5/1 FLHE on Pokerstars after almost 2500 hands. The fish there are incredibly abundant, which no doubt has a lot to do with my winrate so far, but even the average ‘good’ TAG multitabler that I run into tends to be, well, not ‘good’. I honestly don’t think I’ve run into one solid opponent yet.
As I mentioned, I still have lots of kinks to work out, and I’ll have plenty of time to do it. After reading some insightful articles and posts from across the interwebs, I’ve realized just how much over my bankroll limits I’ve been playing with STTs and MTTs. As I can’t stand to move down in limits, I’ll probably be playing fixed limit until I build up a bankroll that gives me significantly more padding than what I’m used to. Following FPau’s fantastic guide, I’ll be playing at least 10,000 hands before I move up to 1/2, but as it stands I’m having a ball down at .5/1. So far I’ve been playing strictly 2 tables, but I did delve into some 4-tabling for the first time in quite a while. It wasn’t pretty, and I’ve decided until I log at least 5 or 10,000 hands, I’ll stick to two until I get familiar with the game enough to add more tables. Hmm, maybe I’ll play 10,000 of 2 tables, then 5,000 of 4 tables…just a thought.
Anyways, I’ve decided that every few days or every week or so I’ll post my thoughts and strategies on my game, and hopefully I’ll get some feedback by way of cross-posting into the forums.
