So I started a new account on carbon a little over a month ago, I managed my BR to 50+ MTT buy in (MTT's only) and was doing pretty great, you can look up my account on sharkscope (Maythefoldbewithyou). I started with $50 and my highest was +$830.
Then I felt like playing a game that was too high for my BR, I said just one time wont hurt ($30+3 buy in), my biggest vice was joining super late. After having AKs busted (all in 6bb pf called by 86s big stack) and got busted. Then rejoining a countless number of times, and not making anything happen. Realized how low I got, so I got a little tilty, and then busto.
Normally I'm used to joining games super late (5-12 BB at BI), but they would be around my buy in level, and I could take the hit. I had everything under control when I could take the hits until a FT or a deep run. and my ITM% beforehand was pretty good (21%). I just figured I would hit at some point, but didn't that day.
I told myself I would take a break from poker, somewhere around 3-6 months. I am a student about to start a part time job, and would like to start again with a substantially larger BR so I do not have to play the "cheeseburger stakes"-(as said by deucescracked) again. In addition to that I would like to use this time to remind myself to manage my BR properly and to not let slipping up "tilt" me.
So now on to the question.
Would taking a break that long affect my play terribly? If so-for any of you who have taken a break- how long does it take to get back into the swing of things? Anyone else with a similar dilemma out there? I would really appreciate hearing your stories.
