Just how aggressive must you be to consistently cash/win?

I think M is better. Say your stack is 2000..

At the 100/200 level the pot = 300 or 10BB

At the 100/200 level with antes of 25 the pot = 525 or 10BB still.

M changes, BB doesn't.

I think the main thing you have to change is your mindset. You shouldn´t worry about having a defined strategy before seating at the tournament table. You should pay attention to detail and what´s going on the table and model your strategy during the tournament. If everyone playing very tight, you play more loose, if someone is playing too loose and seeing too many flops and playing fit or fold strategy post flop you should play more pots with him, in position (and defend more your bb) and try to steal the pot post flop... all that kind of things you just can figure it out on the table, identifying good spots to keep your stack healthy...

see you at the tables ;-)

Very interesting way to look at this dj! Sooo, asprin first or salt? :p

I agree though, especially with the % theory. I feel that this can change due to a situation though, and not stay consistent to a person. This is where becoming a skilled aggressor comes in because you have to be able to adapt to others, specifically when they start fighting back!

Speaking from personal experience you can learn a lot from this man right here. He does have a VERY dynamic understanding of MTTs and when he speaks I have learned to absorb all the information possible.

KC's rush strat back in the good ole days changed my whole outlook on how to optimize profit vs time. Thank you sir... you are a gentleman and a scholar. :D

If you always get called when you bluff you're doing it too much, if you never get called when you bluff you aren't bluffing enough. Good luck.

It escaped me at first but the thread title invokes the word consistently.

Consistency and Tourneys barely go together. When I think consistent I think over 50%, in which case there may be no one alive who is consistent at tourney's.

16% ITM is about average for a MTT isn't it? Even for great players.

They somehow make more final tables though.

I definitely rarely bluff. Just seems like 99% of the time, I pick the wrong spot to do it. :D

I'll start by saying I play live MTTs with 20 minute levels. A lot of calling stations and hyper aggressive people each time. I don't play online for real money.

I'm not a terrible player, and I have cashed. However, I know I'm by no means a great player either and that I have holes in my game. One of which, I believe, is that I need to be more/more often aggressive.

Whenever I get to the final table, or final two tables, I notice lots of folks with a ton of chips. I never seem to be one of those guys. I'm not the short stack, but I'm not a big stack either.

For example, I know that when I get down below 15 or 10 BBs I still play too tight hoping to get cards instead of shoving ATC.

In the beginning of MTTs, I play pretty tight. I loosen up my range as the blinds increase, but I would not be surprised if I'm still too tight. For example, I muck weak aces early unless I'm on the button or BB/SB. I don't play suited or unsuited connectors too often. I rarely play 1 or 2 gappers.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not afraid to put all my chips in if I believe I have the best hand or my bluff will pan out. I'm also pretty patient. I have no problem not getting involved in a lot of hands, but again, I may be too tight still.

I always open with a raise. Unless, I'm in the blind with junk then I, most times, will call/check.

For the most part, I have played a long ball style. However, lately I have been mixing some small ball in and liking it.

I guess I'm just looking to get a discussion started on what I might want to look at doing/changing. I'm not trying to get crazy & be the hyper aggressive guy at the table.

I'm sure more info is needed so feel free to ask.

It always depends on the players. If u are too tight, ppl easily notice it and your blinds will always be raised by thiefs. Sometimes you have to defend your blinds with calls or resteals... ;)
Agressive playing can be very profitable if you dont care about the stress and you get good cards or boards...
For me Faraz Jaka is the great example of hyperagressive play.

Thank you. I am humbled! How have you been doing poker wise? I have been playing, not nearly as much, but still playing and have really wanted to get back into talking about and studying the game again! :)

I agree and even 50% is heaven to some people!

I have been playing when I can, which is almost never since I have finished my masters and now have a full time job. Always play live now ($1/$2 NLHE), but am right where you are at... trying to get back online and talking about poker. I feel like I want to stay away because of how long I have been away and am out of touch with the metagame. Trying to get the courage to start it back up more for fun than for income.

I am thinking about putting a deposit down before this weekend to give it a go, just deciding on the right site. I sure do miss the FTP days. ;) You still online, or is it all live play now?

GL to you on ramping up the play.

I play live every now and then at the Hard Rock here in Tampa. Same limits, $1/$2.

But I have been getting checks from Bovada about once a month or so. I can never completely get away from online but have not put no where near the time or played the amount of tournaments that I used to back in the day!

I will be playing a few on Bovada tonight and on BCP. I like to play the $22 ($4,000 GTD) tournament that runs every night at 18:15 EST on Bovada and have won it a few times now.

If you ever want to get back into it again and talk poker or play, let me know! Maybe we should start a coming back thread.....?!!?!?

Not a bad idea. Not sure the ball and chain would like me dedicating that much time to poker to have a thread going, but maybe. It would likely not be a daily thing, but a weekly updated thread I will absolutely have to consider. I guess I should start the deposit process for Bovada (even though they told me I get no bonus due to my bodog history with them). I don't know if I will try to wait for a small reload bonus or just not even worry about it.

Suggestions for depositing to Bovada? I am not overly concerned with the % fee for credit card, just want to be sure it goes through. Guess I will just call them about the other options.

Sorry for highjacking thread.

No doubt! Def understandable! I am about to make a final table already in my first attempt on BCP ;)

Just ease into it if you can!
